Ok, well I not only had flashes, but times that I would almost pass out and get really dizzy. I had NO idea that that can happen during menopause either! They would not give me any hormone treatment due to cancer running in my family, and the 'natural' things didnt do a dang thing for me either.

What finally worked for me, and even stopped the dizzy spells was a MILD baby dose of antidepressants!!! I have NO idea how the two are linked, but it worked and they are using them more and more for ladies who dont dare take hormones. After a few months. I weaned myself off them slowly over a couple of weeks or so.... and voila!! No more problems!

Sometimes when I have a hot flash my heart feels like it is going to run right out of my chest and also just before, I get this fright and flight thing going on like I feel like I need to escape or run away. It's like a mini panic attack. Any of you ever feel like that. It passes with the hot flash. I suck at drinking water, maybe that is why mine are so bad.

Those "mini panic attacks" I know what you mean! They are horrible!

Due to my brain bleeds of 2 years ago, I have to stay away from just about everything....but the hot flashes were driving me nuts. I found that soy milk (I love the vanilla soy) works pretty good. Doesn't eliminate all of them, but sure made a difference. I put it in my coffee every morning-I drink about 4 cups-and every now and then I'll gulp 1/2 a cup of straight soy milk. It's sweet, so I don't have to put sugar in the coffee. Even the husband MAKES SURE that there's soy milk in the fridge AT ALL TIMES!!!!

Why do they call it MEN-O-PAUSE?

Just curious why not WO-MEN-O-PAUSE

...I am over it now but red meat-alcohol-caffeine-sweets-baked stuff-fried foods and chocolate would send me into flashes as well as Hubby.

I did that! I had no idea they were menopause related. HUH, learn something new every day. Now I've been doing the "power surges" off and on for the last year. Nothing to make me run to the doctor at all, just suddenly too hot for comfort then its done. I have had up to 5 months with no monthly and i thought that was GREAT. In fact i celebrate this stage of my life. I have been a teen, I've been a new wife and a mother of young children and now is the time for ME.

This stage of my life I consider truly mine. I have a wonderful husband and after 32 years together we are comfortable with who we each are (most of the time

) and now I'm getting more comfortable with who 'I' am as well. The hot flashes and everything else associated with the entry into this time of life is a small price to pay for feeling content with who I am. I do however wish I could sleep all night again, I'm awake every 3 or 4 hours now and that my bladder could last just a few more hours during the night. I do not allow myself to drink ANYTHING after 8pm or I will be up by 3 for a bathroom visit.

If I sleep 2 hours I wake up in amazement that I slept that long. Half the time I just keep going until I drop. The harder I try to fall alseep the less likely I will. I have hot flashes at least every hour or 2. You think that's a lot? When I go with out having one is when I notice Wow no hot flash for 3 hours. I know cutting out all the pleasures in life including my husband may reduce my hot flashes but what's left? Maybe I will try cutting back on caffene and see what happens. Whoa is me.

If I was having hot flashes every 2 hours and having trouble falling asleep at night I'd be wreck. I fall asleep just fine at a very reasonable 10:30 - 11:00 I just don't get to STAY asleep. Is it any wonder why we women get a bit testy during menopause? Geez, I'd like to see how cheerful a man would be on no sleep and feeling lucky to be comfortable for a WHOLE 3 hours lol. I have to add tho that my hubby has been good about the whole thing. Every time I get up at night I wake him and yet when our special needs daughter needs someone in the night he is now the first to respond. How sweet is that. He says I don't get enough sleep any more but I don't think he gets a whole lot more than me. But yes I think I'd try cutting back on the caffeine (I'm a coca cola fan and it ALWAYS makes things worse for me if I have coke in the evening) It might help even if its just a little.

maybe if we gradually have to give up all the pleasurable things in life (eating fats/salt/sugar/starch, drinking caffeinated drinks/alcohol and MEN we won't mind so much when our life is over
