I was so disappointed today when I dropped by to see two of my girls that I have sold. The people were not home but I knew they wouldn't mind if I looked at the girls. Well, I was saddened to see that their feet are horrible. They are long and turning up now and I think they've probably foundered. So, what do I do about this?

How long ago did you sell them? I just got my mini's and their other owner is over 2 1/2 hrs away. I keep in contact with her via email and I send pics when I get them. That would be terrible to go and see. I would call her or stop in again when they were home. I know that they aren't yours per say anymore, but you have every right to be concerned for them. See what they have to say about their feet. If it doesn't sound right, or your not happy with what they say, couldn't you turn them in to someone for cruelity? They aren't being proper cared for and that is down right cruel.. Very upsetting, I feel bad for your girls..

Definately I would call the owners and try to talk to them about it. I wouldnt be mean or accusing just chat and see what the situation is. Maybe they fell on hard financial times and need to give them back?? Do they understand how often minis have to be trimmed?

I sold them a while ago actually. They are about an hour away from me. The first one they bought as a weanling and she is 6 years old now. The second was a 2 year old when they got her and she is 5 years old now. Before when I have visited they have been overweight and their feet were maybe a bit long, but they are so bad now. I know they have had big horses in the past, and I know they are knowledgeable about keeping their feet done better.

Can you give them the phone# from your farrier? It might help.

I know how you feel about that.

I actually trim my ponies' hooves myself. I have thought about offering to go and do them myself for a minimal fee (mostly just to cover gas) but I'm not sure I'm up to the task they are so awful. They have had a farrier come before but it has obviously been a while. I guess I just need to get up the courage to call them.
