Loren sings that song almose every day. It sure rains a lot here. Loren misses the sun adn so do I. We have only been here a month!!! :new_shocked:

Well, you definitely moved to the wrong side of the mountains for sunshine up here, especially this time of the year! :new_shocked: Over here on the EAST side of WA we've been enjoying cool, crisp weather and more sunshine than not. Before I moved here, when I moved to Portland and later Seattle from Arizona, I had to take a St. John's Wort supplement to keep my mind happy. I've also heard sun lamps help, but never invested in one. Otherwise, just go get yourself some good foul weather gear (Columbia is a popular NW brand) and learn to get out and get wet... ;)

My Aunt lives in Portland, OR. They moved up there from AZ originally, then CO then OR. She was a school teacher. One rainy day, she was keeping the kids in from recess. She told them if she let them go out they would catch cold. One little girl spoke up and said "But Mrs. Dieter, if we don't go out in the rain, we'll never get to go outside"..............

Isn't this FUN

I predict by next Spring you"ll have webs between your toes :bgrin

Yes, you had the great good fortune to move up here during a month of record rain even for this state.

: Lucky you!

I get even more annoyed because inevitably the sun only peeks out on the days I'm working and can't go do something with my horse. Then it rains on my days off. ::sigh::

I love this state, really I do.

: We have been having lots of pretty sunny days this fall. Mary

Mininik is right! You moved to the WRONG side of the Cascades!

I grew up in Portland, Oregon suburbia, college in Boston, brought a husband home. Two years later we moved to Eastern Oregon......and now living in CENTRAL Oregon on the EAST side of the Cascades.......I cannot see us ever moving to the "valley" again.

I agree with everyone about the west side of the Cascades.......You need those special lights or you can get depressed. I miss the deep green and the beautiful flowers in the Spring, but you suffer for it.

Ah but MA... I like it over here. Sure Loren&Rocky will get used to it in time.

Loren&Rocky, we call this weather, "liquid sun".

: Is why it is really green on this side of the state. Think of the USA's version of Ireland.

Think the hardest part, is getting ones self outside. Once you are out in the rain, it isn't so bad.

You will also learn to drop what ever you are doing at the time, when you see a break in the rain, so you can go play with your horses.

Well I like Southwest Oregon! We're drier than Northern Oregon.......though November has been a bit soggy! Yet we're greener than Eastern Oregon. Even in So Oregon I get tired of the rain in the winter.

Well, we didn't really pick the place. We just decided to live with my aunt and uncle (as they had been begging us to do for the past 4 years). It is a place to live for convience for teh time being. We can't do a thing until our house sells in NH.

Just call it warm snow...

Just so you know, this is a November to make even die-hard rain connoisseurs whine...but still, I'll take it over the cold any day. Normally we will have had a gorgeous, crisp Indian summer with warm days and cool nights...we sort of skipped that this year!

Don't forget, this is about the only downside to living in this region. We don't have hurricanes or tornadoes, earthquakes, though predicted for the future, are rare, we have little threat of poisonous snakes or spiders, drought is a relative term (as in, the rivers and reservoirs are below full), we have little to no snow and blizzards are extremely rare, and a cold snap generally means a couple of days below freezing.

The rain is more than made up for by the lush, green NW beauty. We are surrounded by GREEN. The northwest is envied by gardeners around the world for its mild climate. Grass grows so well that it is considered almost an invasive weed. Horses can graze year-round, although the spring grass is TOO rich for them.

So I have to waders to feed the horses...so the windshield wipers never stop...so my hair turns green...so raincoats become a fashion statement...so we don't tan, we rust...so if you fall off of your bicycle, you drown...This is a small price to pay for what we get in return.

However, many Oregonians who would rather not deal with ever-increasing population will assure you that it DOES rain all the time and isn't worth the pain!!!!! (Just kidding!!)

(Let Loren know that the rain DOES go away, although it certainly will come another day...but he's going to have a blast come spring and summer when he can run outdoors barefoot without a jacket and little worry about overheating!
