Congrats Lyn.

I have a question. I know absolutely nothing about showing dogs so with that said here is my question.

You said she got Best of Breed from the puppy class against mature ******* and two dogs.

How can those other dogs be in the class against puppies?

Thanks!

They were not in her class. You show in one of the following. Puppy 6-9, 9-12. 12-18. open mini (adult) open standard, American bred ( usually for those slightly bigger than a mini, not as big as a standard ( tweeies ) and Bred By Exhibitor. Then the winners of each of those classes goes in for winners bitch and reserve winners. Then the winners bitch, the winners dog and specials, meaning finished champions go in for the Best of Breed or Variety. The judge then picks best of breed, best of winners and best of oposite sex to best of breed. You only get points for winners dog or winners bitch towards your championship except when a class dog takes the breed or variety over a finished champion then you add another point. At Soecialties is the only place you get a Breed win because Smooth and Wire and Long all get their variety wins and then Best of Variety goes for Best of Breed. Does that help?

CONGRATULATIONS Lyn, I had a major win with one of our home bred German Shepherds at 6 months and 1 day and took a Major win away from lots of nice mature *******. She was having too much fun in the breed ring to do anything else though but what a feather in that little girls cap.

It is such a thrill when it is one of your own.

only 2 points, there was a major but it broke. needed 8 smooth ******* and 1 was absent. I was thrilled and really didnt expect it. We were trying to get her some experience before the specialty next week. There are lots of big shows coming up in Nov, Dec and Jan. Entries are down like at the horse shows. There has always been Majors in VA Beach but not next week not even at the hound specialty next wed. She isnt entered there but Dragon is. She will be up in PA at Bloomsburg/Bald Eagle. then Berkes county hound specialty.
