Thanks!!
Honestly, it's just a cheap-o, but I'm excited anyway. I call it a PBM brand (short for plain brown mouse...lol). I got it on ebay and then took it to a friend of mine who makes saddles to check it out this afternoon. He said that the quality is fair and it is safe to use. My plan isn't to use it to actually hook him, but I am going to use it for the beginning stages of training. He will learn to wear it, I'll use the PVC trainers with it and pull the tire and log with it.
I got this one mainly to get the ball rolling because I'm semi-broke after buying a second horse and preparing to take two to Nationals. But I didn't want to halt his education until after Nationals, he's been doing so well. I have no plans to hook him until all of the ground work is done to my satisfaction and we are back home from Nationals. That gives Shake time to get used to wearing it and also will give me time for my poor budget to recover. When it's time to move forward to actually putting him to, I'll buy one that is higher quality.
Today was Shake's free longe day, so I just oiled the harness while I was waiting for him to marinate in his sweats before work. It was all I could do not to put the driving saddle on him when I was walkiing him out, but I waited. Tomorrow he will wear it. I don't anticipate any trouble with it.
Shake has mellowed quite well. Once he's good with the drving saddle, the crupper will go on, and once he's relaxed with that the breeching, and lastly, the breastcollar. I've started a blog (my very first blog ever) on this site about his training steps so I wouldn't bore you guys to death with all of the details on the forum itself. So I'll stop there. LOL!
