I would like to learn some more about showing. I have always had big horses and shown them, but am not sure about these little ones. I know the basic classes and all of that, but I would like to see some different pictures of all of the different things you can do. My little guy is working on the basic halter and showmanship stuff right now. He backs straight, sets up, pivots...you the the normal stuff. What is the appropiate age to start teaching them about jumping, trail and the like. I know that they should be at least 3 before pulling a cart.

I am going to a show in June to watch, but I don't know if I can wait until then! I am eager to be able to work on things. Also, one more question? What is the best way to help them muscle up and all of that? I showed a yearling Quarter Horse and we did a lot of lunging to build her muscle, but I have heard that lunging on a line is hard on a growing little one. Can I free lunge him a little bit every day to help develop those muscles?

Thanks for your input! I look forward to seeing lots of pictures! (hint hint) :bgrin

I lunge my yearling for 10 min in a 50 foot roundpen every other day or so. Just remember: trotting builds fitness, walking & cantering builds muscle.
