First up, the odd balls.

H.P. breeds black and white ponies and Joan can't remember the last time they had a solid black! Here's a solid black colt.

And before 2005 they had never had a red and white - this year they had two red and white stud colts!

Here's a more "normal" H.P. baby - they have a lot of crazy markings in that herd!

And a couple more! (They had several medicine hats this year - think all of them are colts)

And last but not least - my new girl H.P. Blue-Eyed Seductress aka "Tess".

oh lewella i love your filly!!! congrats. I laughed so hard when i looked at Stars pedigree. Every generation is black and white pinto. I had no idea!!!

on a side note that other medicine hat stud colt looks bay to me not red.

Thanks All! I really like Tess - she's pretty as all get out and has a wonderful disposition too.

Kaykay - he's red and white, no chance whatsoever of bay - momma and daddy are both black and white.

He's just a much darker shade of red than the other red colt.

Wish I would have got a picture of Star's dam but she was up dry lotted with the minis and by the time we got to that part of the farm we were penning up and haltering Tess to load her and I totally forgot about Peaceable!

Congratulations Lewella!

Tess is beautiful

She looks like a Bear baby...did you buy her to breed to Bear?

Did Shauna write to you and tell you she got a solid foal from Bode? She was very surprised, but Bode is sure looking Great! He has a curly coat and wavy mane and tail. Where does that come from? She has no foals coming this next year, but will breed mares again next year

Oh and love all your babies you got this year...Wonderful and Bear's babies are again striking and odd patterned

Hi Jenny,

Yep, she's a girlfriend for Bear in the future.

No, haven't heard from Shauna. Is she sure the foal isn't going to roan out? Sometimes they don't shed their baby fuzz and get their winter hair in and you don't know for sure they are roan until they are yearlings. Bear's mane is a little wavy but his foals don't usually get the wavy mane and those that have have straightened out as they matured. Don't think Bodie had a wavy mane as a foal.

If the Bodie baby is a solid then a crossing over occured. During reproductive cell formation genetic material is swapped from one chromosome of a pair to the other and sometimes this can result in Extension and Roan unlinking (though this is very rare since they are located very close together). If they unlinked it will be one of the very few foals he ever sires that isn't a roan or a tobiano. (And if another crossing over occurs maybe Shauna will get really lucky and get a roan tobiano where roan and tobiano are both on the same chromosome - I've never found a documented for sure one so I'd love to see it happen!).
