It was a long trip, but Sophie is home safe in her stall. Kind of wet as she will not leave her water bucket a lone, but we think we have that taken care of.
She wore 2 blankets for the trip home. Her stall at Purdue was 68*, it was 7* outside. When we got home she did seem to be chilled, but got her in the barn, in the stall with the window and she stood in the sun and they seemed to do the trick.
She is for sure walking much, much better. All final blood work up was normal. All vitals were good, so we were good to go!
Couldn't help but giggle at the board outside her stall, it had all these warnings listed. Like her biting and rearing,,,,,,,,,I do understand they had to do it, but it just wasn't my sweet little girl.
I can't tell you how excited Prints was to see Sophie. Pretty funny as Sophie has always picked on her. Prints walked with us getting Sophie to her stall and Prints made sure everyone else stayed back. After I got Sophie settled in her stall, Prints stood at the stall gate to talk with her some.
Sophie will remain on Bute and will start to wean her off of it next week. She is on grass hay only at 1% of her body weight. (amount)
Her trim recommendation is the placement of 5 degree wedge lifts in the front and 3 degree wedge in the rear. We will change either depending on Sophies comfort level. Purdue would prefer the degree to be more agressive is she can tolerate it. I already had to change one of the shoes,,,,,well one came off. not an easy task. Maybe with practice I'll do ok.
Depending on if the above works, we may also be using heart bar shoes that are glued on.
Stall rest for one month, with only 15 minutes out each day. If she is improving after a month, we can go to an hour month 2, 3, and 4.
She is on Vitamin E, 2,000 IU once daily and 1tsp. cinnamon in the a.m.
No pasture ever again. She can have no grain for 6 months, and then it has to be 6% starch or less, and will be no more than about 1 cup.
We did get the rest of her metabolic tests back, and again, all normal.
So she is being treated for Chronic laminitis,,,,treating symptoms,,,,,,,,,but with this, and for whatever may or may not be showing up in tests, she is also being treated due to "Altered Glucose Metabolism"
I will try to get a picture of the shoes in the next few days.
Thank you so much to you all for prayers and thoughts, I know that is what got her home.

We are all so very happy to have her home in her own stall.
