I'll be going under the knife again Monday morning for cataract surgery on my right eye. I've already had this done on my left eye, as well as a vitrectomy on each eye, so I know the drill. (SOOOO glad this surgery does not require lying on my stomach for days on end...)

This will be out-patient surgery, in and out, so I'll be home recuperating by early afternoon. There are no guarantees, but I hope to get past the "saran wrap" vision I currently have in that eye.

I'm just sick enough to be fascinated by being awake during this procedure -- I'd much rather be awake and aware than totally under.

As always, the hardest part will be patience with the recovery process. I'm cleared to feed the horses provided I wear goggles, but I am not to lift buckets or anything the least bit heavy, so Keith gets to deliver grain/beet pulp and clean troughs.

Oh Susanne...I am so glad you're having this done and hopefully it will take the 'saran wrap' away from your poor eye. Please be gentle with your recovery. What a relief that it's not the kind of surgery that requires that face plant again. I couldn't even imagine that.

I am having major foot surgery next week and I, too, am considering the option of staying awake but so I can watch. I go back and forth, as it will be two hours long and it might be nice to just take a nap too! My husband watched his arthroscopic knee surgery and said it was fascinating.

Best wishes to you for a fast recovery. Hi to sweet Thelonious! I always think of him fondly and know he's getting the best of love and care at your place.

Thanks, Jayne!

I'll be thinking about your foot surgery next week. If you're not squeamish, I'd stay awake -- just think of the great stories you'll have to tell!

I'll go give Thelonius a hug for you -- he's as cute as ever...perhaps even cuter since I roached his mane and turned him into a mini Fjord Pony! He is still as bonded as ever to Mingus, viewing the world from under his neck or behind his rump.

A little story you might appreciate: I told our farrier about Thelonius' previous life as a procedures horse. Ever since, Billy (the farrier) always pays special attention and praises Thelonius for being so good and not being frightened of all humans after what went through.

And how many can claim to have a pet who is half Miniature Horse and half Cabbage Patch Doll?

Will keep you both in my thoughts, sure everything will be fine.

You are super brave Susanne!!

I am such a wimp.. while I hate any kinds of drugs.. I won't want to be awake!

Geez, you two! Take care of yourselves and here's crossing my fingers that the surgeries improve things for you both.
