Just make sure all your doors and windows are locked tonight. I'm rarely alone out here, but I know I would be very nervous tonight if I was in your place! If you have window coverings you can close, that might be a good idea too.

aaah that is so freaky eek i hate being home alone at night

Ooo..I hate that! I freak myself out way to often. I'd just go to bed, if I were you. Everyone is safe under the covers

You know what you need.....a goat. We have a yearling goat...he's the screaminest sucker you'll ever come across. If he sees a person, he'll do this awful "slit my wrist" scream until you come pet him. Once you give him some love, he's great. But I guarantee, NO ONE can come in this yard without him screaming!

That would spook me a bit too!

My dogs are a Great Dane (BIG with a deep bark) and a Westie-mix, so I would feel somewhat protected, but still....

get that light fixed tomorrow! You know what would be a good idea-- a motion-activated light at your doors-- you'd see that light go on and you'd KNOW someone was there.

I'm sure it was something simple, like somebody lost or something tho!

I"m a real weeinie about these things too.

I spook very easily when I"m here alone at night. It doesn't happen often but when I am I do get scared. I know my dogs will protect me, but still there are nut cases out there. One escaped from prison 2 weeks ago and then murdered some people 15 miles away from here.

Halloween is upon us and H___ week will begin tonite in lots of places. Soap night, paint night, toilet paper night, etc. We don't usually get any of that but you never know. We got toilet papered two years ago but nothing harmful.

Be sure you get that light fixed, lock the doors and check the windows and pull the drapes so no one can see in. Move your vehicles around so it will look like you've got more than one person in the house and be sure to keep the phone close by. And don't open that door for nobody no matter what they say.

That IS very scary. It reminds me of the first night I spent alone with our three young children years ago in our new house. We had moved from the city to the country and were used to the big lights and noise of the city with neighbors only a stones toss away. I had just bathed the kids and it was a dark winter night. My husband worked out of town so it was just us. The house was big and I was frankly, nervous to be there alone. Boxes were still everywhere because we had just moved that day and my husband had to go back to work. At about 8pm I heard the sound of a BIG truck outside. Our house sat way off the road with gates, etc. No one would have ANY reason to be at our house. Heck, no one should even know we lived there yet. I certainly didn't know any neighbors yet and they were all so far away to me. I heard a knock on the door. There was complete darkness outside. Those of you who haved lived in the city and moved to the country know that distinct difference of total blackness compared to the forever glow of those city lights. Well, I huddled all the kids together in the kitchen and called 911. Then I heard the sound of the big truck getting fainter as it headed down the driveway. The police came and searched around the outside of the house and found that familiar Post It note stuck to the front door that the UPS man leaves when he comes to deliver a package and you aren't there.

You could just see the look the policemen gave each other that said, "City girl". All I could say was, "The UPS man never delivered this late in the city." They got a laugh at my expense for sure.

LOL, Debra I love your post! Thats a good one. When we moved to our current home in Bushnell fl the 1st thing we did was put up a fence and gate at the front of the property. We HAD to! The man we bought from had a deadbeat previously buy our place and he had to evict him. Well the police had to evict him because he would not leave! Seems the deadbeat owed everyone in this little town money or something. We had angry men beating on our door at all hours, not fun! Got the gate and fence up in less than a week and they would still sit at the gate and honk till we went out and talked to them. Now we have a tall electric gate and the big anatolians, thats the way I like it, no salesmen or worse knocking on my door uninvited.

I have a house full of BIG dog's for a reason
biggrin.gif
my property is fully fenced and my drive is 300 feet to the gate then another 50 feet to the house.......My hubby used to work nights and I am a total chicken butt.......I can totally sympathize......that is why we have lots of large dogs they make me feel safe

I must admit though after the "dam_n goat " arrived i was a little worried that someone had cased the place just to dump a goat which is a bit freaky.....I mean if they knew when to dump a goat they knew when I wasn't home (my 14 year old son was home asleep) and that is a bit un nerving.......keep the doors locked and the dogs in hopefully it was just some lost soul......

Get a moron. That's what my wife did.

Everytime I hear something outside at night, I compulsively go outside to investigate. I guess the idea is that if there's an evil-doer out there that isn't scared by the dogs, then surely a fat guy in his boxers will do the trick.

The usual end result is me chasing a varmit into the woods and coming back in with a dozen bug bites...like a moron.

We live fairly rurally, on a Private dead end road, do have a neighbor down the way, next door and across the way. but still it gets rather dark LOL I have 2 dogs, one blind, one gimpy, but they still bark LOL And I have lights on the corners of the house that are on at night so I can see the yard. Add to that neighbors dogs ( as in 5) who bark, all night, at anything that even thinks about moving, including the MOON!! LOL I dont worry overmuch about someone coming here. I rarely lock the house when I go out ( dogs stay in, worry about an emergency and someone getting them out) nor do we lock the vehicles. However the field gates are all locked. I worry more about someone stealing the horses than getting into the house.
