Stall Rubber Mattresses, not mats

That's what we use.

Thick mattresses filled with rubber chips and packed in "baffles". (sort of tubes of the rubber chips)

Then a sheet of thin rubber over top and screw nailed into the walls of each stall to hold in place.

We clean our barn twice a day, just sweep the mats off and spread a thin coat of shavings on top to soak up any urine.

The stall floor is about 3 inches thick.

We installed the mats due to our barn having a cement floor, however we have seen people using it on their barn which has a sand floor.

Very comfortable for the horses.

Is there a lot of ammonia/odor since it doesn't drain through?

How expensive are they?

I am not sure how much they are yet, I awaiting a response from the salesman.

l inquired about those beds 2 years ago for one preg mare stall...but l have to say up my way very pricey much as l'd love them l am not rich..but would love to hear the quote you get down there.

I would appreciate what you find out if you don't mind sharing.

Lee & I are trying to decide on what type of flooring we want to put in our new barn. We are going to work on the stalls this fall & winter in hopes that the economy picks up & we can sell this farm next year.

Just wanted to add that after a few years the top sheet started to wrinkle a bit from the horses movement and the installers came back and restretched the top sheet without charge.

For people that decide to go with the product I would inquire of the installers for their committment to coming back without charge after the product has been down for about a year.

The time of year it's going down can affect how well they get the top sheet stretched. For instance in cool weather it won't stretch out as much as it would in warmer weather.

After about a year there ,ay be some wrinkles in the top sheet and if you wait too long to get them back, some wrinkles will not come out.

Okay, here is my quote: $695.00 plus freight of nearly $490.00 for the total $1185.00

Details: 4 12x12 stalls on existing dirt floor and freight from Canada to Tennessee

Plus I have to install it myself which they said was very easy - there are no installers near me.

I don't think the near $700 is that bad at all, as that is the same cost as my 4 stall fronts with grills and sliding doors, but that freight is the killer, OUCH!!

Or buying all the rubber stall mats, around here at $40 (TSC) each with six in a stall for four stalls is $960.00, so $700 sounds good!!!!!

What about this one: http://www.comfortstall.com/CS_Products_Comfortstall.html I had to leave a message for them too, so we'll see.

My husband is quite handy and I do not think we could have installed our mats.

The baffles of rubber chips are easy enough but the sheeting for the top has to be stretched and then attached to the walls of the stalls, much like installing "wall to wall" carpeting..

If it isn't stretched tightly it starts to wrinke and looks terrible in a while.

Ours was professionally installed and still the tops wrinkled in a few stalls.

Are you sure that it isn't $695 per stall? I priced out both Stable Comfort and Comfort Stall and I have 3-12x12 stalls and if I recall correctly it was over $2,500 for my barn. I can't remember if that was installed. I'll have to find the emails.

That is very possible that it would be per stall and I misunderstood (par for the course with me) as it was over the phone. What an enormous bummer if it is as we were seriously looking for a way to get them.

Just called to verify that and you are right, it is $695 EACH - wow, thanks for that reality check

Thats better l was sure they were a little more pricey then you first mentioned for 4 stalls. l know for my stall a 10x12 it was just a little over 1100 with GST installed which l thought was to much so we just stayed with the heavy 3/4" rubber matts. Our matts only come in 4x8 at 80 bucks plus tax each so yours are a lot cheaper down there then up here..lucky you.
