Just got off the phone with my vet, and she told me Strongid C was in Canada but not enough demand.

Something to do with our Winters not as much problem with strongyles worms here?

She believes Stongid T is similar.....

She would like to know what ingredients is in Strongid C to look into the difference in Strongid T here in Ontario.

Her book does not have Strongid C to get the info?

Stongid T: for treatment of parasitic infections cause by the adult stage of large stonglyles, small stongles, pinworms, and the common tapeworm in horses and foals over 8 weeks of age.

Stongid C????

Thanks

Strongid C is Pyrantel Tartrate

Strongid T is Pyrantel Pamoate.

Pyrantel pamoate is also used in horses, cattle, sheep, pigs and many other species. When a new puppy or kitten is adopted and has been said to have been “dewormed†the chances are it is this product that was used. Pyrantel pamoate is not effective against whipworms nor is it effective against tapeworms. Because of the migration of worms through the whole body and the medications ability to only get to them in the intestine, a second and even third deworming (2-4 weeks apart) may be recommended to kill the worms in the process of migration at the time of the first deworming.

SIDE EFFECTS

Worms are frequently passed with some diarrhea, straining, and sometimes vomiting. An extremely heavily parasitized very small animal may suffer a worm impaction when a large number of worms die and try to pass at the same time. This is a very unusual possibility but one should be aware of it if one is using it in very small animals. The CDC recommends deworming as young as age 2 weeks for dogs and cats.

INTERACTIONS WITH OTHER DRUGS

It is recommended that the following drugs not be used with pyrantel pamoate as they increase side effects potential: levamisole, morantel, or piperazine (all are other dewormers) or with organophosphate insecticides or diethylcarbamazine (a heartworm preventive).

CONCERNS AND CAUTIONS

Pyrantel pamoate is safe to use in pregnancy and lactation and is frequently used in these situations to minimize the worm burdens of neonatal animals.

From what I can gather- as I do not use this chemical- Tartrate is the daily feeding version of Pamoate- I cannot find any chemical difference in the two but I have NOT done extensive research on it.

I would suggest your Vet or you contact the manufacturers direct and ask for details of daily dosage.

There are generic forms of Pyrantel that may well be cheaper.

I swear by Strongid C and have used it ever since it came out. I do stop it once a year, worm with a good paste wormer and return to the Strongid C on the 3rd day for another year. No colics, healthier looking coats, wouldn't be without it.
