These were bought for me, but I shared:

(how could I resist!)

Besides, I could not eat more than a half dozen (they are huge), but they really hit the spot since I'm trying to take it easy after not eating much over the past few days. They are just so sweet and juicy. (From Watsonville, CA.)

Very appreciative to have them in the middle of Feb. when they taste like mid-June (that's usually our Strawberry season). Wish I could share, though, with you all.

Oh Liz, You guys need a little bit of sweetness from this world! Hope you enjoyed them.

(I saw the strawberries at Safeway today.....should have grabbed some.)

Oh, yes, they were very much necessary along with the sunshine we've been having.

I think these strawberries actually did come from Safeway, now that I think about it. They even smelled like summertime or late Spring...

The boys ate about one container by themselves. There's still nearly a full container left and every one is as good as the next, there are NO BAD ones in it, which is what I could not believe.

Thanks, MA, and I was going to msg you, I hope you took photos the day you got your little ones back.

(just in case)

Liz, I'm SO glad you're feeling better!

Boy, do those ever look good! And what a beautiful group to share the berries with!

*SIGH* Watsonville.......

Our family lived south of there and every Fall they'd go to Watsonville and get a big truck load of apples! They were a light green. I don't know what kind they were, but I still think of them as Watsonville apples. The veggies and fruit there Ahhhh so good! So for months there were many pies, apple sauce, and apple eating! Those apples were perfect and I wish I know what kind they were. My family died and I'll never have another Watsonville apple. Not a Fall goes by that I don't crave those apples!

Those red sticky faces look very kissable! I'm glad you're feeling better. Go easy on food, try applesauce. Rice cereal...Boil Minute rice, put into a bowl add a bit of milk a bit of sugar and some sliced strawberries. Easy on the tummy and good too! My mom always gave us this after a bad bout. I still do, it's kind of like comfort food. Hugs!

Speaking of Safeway I went there yesterday and they have some seedless grapes on sale for .99 cents a pound, they had green-red-and black, the black ones are pretty good the ones I got were really big and sweet. The green ones will pucker you up and the red ones werent to much better IMO. But them big black ones were good.

Oh Liz! Two delicious pictures! The boys are adorable but that bowl of berries is worthy of a gallery!

Makes me feel springy!

They sure are pretty!!! The strawberries and the boys :bgrin

I've noticed this year that pretty fruits are much more available right now. Alot of fruit stuff around here (NM) is being imported in from Chile.

I haven't had any problems this whole "winter" finding awesome Strawberries, Peaches, Nectarines......even Apricots.

I don't really like buying imported stuff, but I'm a fruit addict so I can't resist

Oh my! They look delicious! Very good heart and soul food and hope you are feeling better. Mary

Yep, feeling better, pretty much 100% just a little weak, guess b/c I didn't eat so much over those couple of days, from about Sunday night to Tuesday night all I had was water, pepto bismol and orange juice (oh, and five cheerios, thinking I needed to eat something which was why my stomach hurt, but nooo), all of which came back up really quickly.

One of my favorite recovery foods is bananas, but we didn't have any, b/c I hadn't been to the store since Saturday. The strawberries, though, were unexpected and we're having some again this a.m.. I guess I was a little surprised they were from the U.S. My Dad used to live down in that region, too. My grandma worked on farms feeding the crews in the kitchen, and they lived in Sacramento area for a long time.

They moved to CA after leaving Portland in the late 80s, and I drove down to see them several times and fell in love with the area around where they lived like Castroville and Monterey. If it weren't so expensive and crowded, I'd BE there! The climate's not bad at all and the coastlines are amazing (Big Sur, etc.).

Artichokes are good, too!

Thanks, everyone, for the well wishes and the boys definitely smell like little strawberry blossoms esp. Colton, who steals berries and runs around the house hiding them like easter eggs or something!

:aktion033: In native American lore strawberry means "let there be no harsh words between us."
