We attended Lee's clinic yesterday at Aloha Acres along with many other people.

What a day !!! Lee gave us advice and tips on anything you can imagine concerning minis.

Kirby demonstrated a facial for us and showed us the appropriate way to jog your horse in front of the judge.

Shannon Troglauer and Kirby used Marcos to demonstrate how Liberty should be done. Marcos was just as magnificent as if he had been in the show ring.

DeAnna Rasberry from Double Diamond got together with Kirby and created "Kirby's Kit" - a grooming tote loaded with all the supplies Kirby uses to prepare the horses for a show - right down to the shaving gel and razors he uses !!

We came home with a wealth of knowledge it would have taken us years to obtain.

Many thanks to Lee, his staff and friends for a FANTASTIC day !

We had a clinic a few years back for the NYSMHC and ESMHA clubs combined and it was great...Lee once gave my son Ben some encouragement when he was younger and was not getting the blues just yet and when Ben finally received his first AMHA blue ribbons, he ran over to Lee to thank him (he was exhibiting).

I had a great time too. Lee shared all of his knowledge about these horses. He told us how the judges judge and everything. I learned a lot about nutrition and feeds. He shared a lot of information. Lee is one of the best trainers in the world and if you ever have the opportunity to go to one of his clinics you should. I had a great time talking to everybody too. It was nice to see my cousin Lee and listen him speak about everything. Aubrey

Oh you lucky people who had the opportunity to have Lee give the clinic. Would any of you share jusy one or two things that you found to be extrememly important......pleeeeeze? We just never have access to anything so helpful in our area. Thanks, Mary

Thank you for starting this thread Justine. It was an awesome day with over 120 people attending Aloha's Clinic. Everyone seemed to have a wonderful time. I know that Lee was very eager to share with everyone and he was pleased with the turnout.

Thanks to everyone that came! This may have to become an annual event

Even tho we got there late , it sure was THE place to be! Want to also thank Lees momma for feeding us after all the food had been put away. My favorite part was when Lee told us what the judges see and dont see.....the things that bug them that we do.... how NOT to negatively impress the judge from what you do OUTSIDE the ring.... That was fabulous. Did you guys know that when you bicker with your kids (something I was known to do with Katie) , swear at your horse or your husband our your kids are out of control and you are either hollaring at them or letting them run rampant, some judges will knock your horse down for YOUR out of the ring behavior if say your horse and two others are equal in all areas? I never thought of that. He also talked about what liberty is and isnt, how anoyed the judges get when we go in with plastic bags on the whips and shake it at the horse. He said that was borderline abuse. Also said Liberty was all about grace and beauty and style and when we pick loud and raw music it turns most of the judges off. Also that most of us lose the class for our horses because we think they need to gallop all the time and as soon as they settle into a floating and lovely trot we run up on them with our bags and cans and run them off! Lots to think about and absosrb. It was a PRICELESS clinic that he provided for free. Heather and all those who worked to put it together with Lee, many thanks to you also!

Thanks for sharing some of the information from the clinic...gee, if any one would spend all day talking about this clinic, I am sure there are a lot of us that sure would spend the day reading!! So what was suggsted to use or do to keep a horse in motion while it is in Liberty? Any more suggestions are greatly appreciated. Mary

This was a wonderful Clinic and we all gained a ton of knowledge from it. We were just discussing

the clinic today with friends and what all we talked about and learned. Its amazing at the amount of

information Lee shared with us in just half a day. It was well worth the beautiful drive out there. He told

us all from his perspective as a trainer and a Judge. From Setting up your horse to what to wear, nutrition.

Training , neck sweats .Kirby shared his grooming secrets , even doing a facial for us . It was just a priceless experience. :aktion033: :aktion033: Thanks to all who helped in preparing this clinic.

It was a great clinic. My hubby says he'd be willing to pay to go to another one learned a lot, it helped him understand the concepts as to why I do some of the things I do. It helped him gain a better idea of what to look for and what to stay away from. My hubby grew up with cows so he knows cows but not a whole lot about horses he said it was an eye opener. I learned a lot it was very informative. It was great to meet people from the area since we are new here.

Lee and everyone involved, Thank you SOOOO much for putting this on.

Sounds like a great clinic! I met Lee several years ago, at an Iowa show. He is a great person to talk with, very honest, fun and willing to share his knowledge. To bad he didn't make a video of this clinic and offer it for sale....would be great to buy for those of us too far away to go.

Would any of you mind sharing briefly what he said about show attire and nutrition? Thanks in advance.

Russ ~ Sorry you missed Lee's Clinic, it was well worth driving 3 hours. Lee shared much about his feeding program, and seems to prefer Purina products. The thing that most surprised me is that he says to feed your horse his hay 20 minutes before feeding their grain. This way the hay slows down the digestion process and your horse can utilize the nutrition in the feed. Feed good feed and if you find your horse is a little plump, then cut back on their fat intake NOT their feed.

So far as attire.....don't over do it. Too much is gaudy...keep it simple and neat. Although not required he likes to see gloves and lap throws in driving classes. and if it comes down to the wire between 2 horses that are equal, he will go with the one that took a little extra time to look neat and well turned out.

Knowing what judges are looking for and NOT looking at was very informative, and I will never walk in the ring again without remembering what Lee said..."be confident" don't walk into the ring and look like a shrinking violet, or look like your lost. First impressions are very important, and don't spend all your time setting up the horse.

All in all....a wonderful learning experience in a magnificent setting.
