This is little Dolly when we got her about a month ago.....Hard to tell there's a horse under there isn't it?

I have to tell you, we bought Dolly (aka 'the Dollywog') for the purpose of resale..........and you know how that goes.........with every passing day

: If there is a sweeter more people loving little horse on earth I would like to see it!

Anyway, we needed to generate some income so we studied the pictures of her and decided there was something pretty special under all that fur, but the weather has been very harsh lately as many of you know. Finally Frank decided she was adjusted well enough here to go into show training which meant a bath and head & neck.

SO WHAT DO YOU THINK???????

This is 'Darling Dolly'! All 24 3/4" -25" of her! (a hoof trim is next in line) She's 9 months old.

And now the delima is.....what do we do? She's everything we look for in a horse plus very small! But if she stays someone else has to go

How do you make decisions like that? I'm serious. I really need some help with this one. How do you decide? What are the criteria you base decisions such as this on? HOW THE HECK DO YOU MAKE A CHOICE?

Charlotte

:new_shocked: WOW what a difference !!!

those two pics are a perfect set to show the 'real' and the 'show real' !!

I dont know what you should do ... It is a very hard choice to make ...

but good luck !

I think she is beautiful! Can't help you with your problem of who to keep or sell! I will probably be asking the same question in a few months! Sheila

Her eyes are just gorgeous!

I don't know how you choose..

Well, you guys aren't any help!

C'mon, I know everyone has to make decisions like this at one time or another.....How do you make choices? What do you base those choices on?

She is gorgeous and I will be no help whatsoever. The someone must go part is what I fail at. LOL

She is a true beauty and one I would enjoy looking at every day. If she is as sweet as she looks, that would seal the deal.

Maybe you should start looking at the Convert A Portable Garage into a Beautiful Stable post on the Back Porch, LOL!

She is awesome! How I make my choices?

I ask my husband " should we sell this mare?" I already know whats coming " not her she's my favorite. Not him, I thought you ( me) like his pedigree. Not this filly I helped her in this world or no her mother is my best or no is too complicated for people who don't know her.

Keep her !

Hope I could help

We've just been talking about this very thing! We've been keeping all these pretty fillies we raised and now have to make some decisions because if we keep all of them we'd be doubling the size of our breeding program! We decided based on keeping a variety of bloodlines and limiting the number of full siblings that we keep. Still tough, we'd happily keep and raise foals from every mare on the place right now!!

She's a pretty girl, good luck with her!

oh charlotte i love her big expressive eye!!

how do i make those decsions?? I have hubby build another stall lol

sorry not much help

Personally, I think she needs to come live with me. You don't need her... :bgrin You could even come visit her!

She's GORGEOUS! I just LOVE bay horses!!

omg, look at that eye.....gorgeous!!!

I'm no help either....I have kept my last 2 foals, just because I wasn't parting with them  :bgrin

But I haven't gotten to the part where 'if this one stays, one has to go'....but it is rapidly getting there!!!
default_rolleyes.gif
:

As for whether she stays or not, depends on what you are wanting to do with your herd....and I know I could never make that decision for anyone....but man, she sure is purdy!!!!

I do have to add after reading Kim's post below....I completely agree with her! There are a couple mares that I own, though I love them to bits, and they are beautiful, if I had to pick they would be the first ones, because they give me more 'trouble' on a day to day basis than the others do.....in saying that though, I also have one specifically who though she can be a pain in the rear, she won't be going anywhere....

I've had to make some decisions like that here this year, needed to cut back on numbers to keep me sane, so had to choose which mares go up for sale and which stay. It was very, very tough!

I went with my gut, not my heart, not my head, and not necessarily my breeding goals (they all fit for the individual reasons I bought them). I asked myself On a daily basis which horse do I like to work with, be around, etc. Which are easier for me and the set up I have to care for as far as management, etc. Which horse would I honestly and sincerely miss if they weren't there every day?

I actually learned a lot more about my horses, and myself by asking these kinds of questions, and I suprised myself with the answers. I know I will purchase differently in the future because of asking those questions.

But I will say the mares are still here, not buyers yet, but the first step of actually listing them for sale is the hardest for me!

OH MY GOODNESS !!!!!

She's GORGEOUS and a BAY to boot !!! She'd fit so nicely here in my all bay herd hehehe

Charlotte,

She wants to move 35 miles east! That way she would be close enough for you to see her often and I have a couple of empty stalls.

Mary

OMGosh! She's VERY pretty! :new_shocked:

I don't know if this will help, but it's something I do when it's really hard to decide. I make a checklist - actually write it down in black and white - not just in my head. And I put down all the points that are important to me, for example: straight legs, level topline, pretty head, right pedigree, personality, mature height, color, etc. Then I prioritize them from the top all the way down. Then I complete the checklist for each horse and see who has the higher score - meaning who has the most of my top priority criteria and who has the lesser criteria. Does that even make sense? It's hard to explain in writing!

Good luck - you're gonna need it!

KayKay, I have to say DITTO!! If we do sell one, we immediately start to say "WHY did we sell THAT ONE?"

That's why we are scrambling for more hay as I write this.....

Charolette,

What a doll - I will be of no help what-so-ever -- take a look at my herd, I have kept all but about 8 of my fillies over the years!

I will caution you however, to not make the same mistake I have -- I have been criticized for not selling and taken a lot of heat for it and it has actually cost me some "friends" (gotta wonder if they were really friends after that tho).

Good luck on that tough decision!

Stacy
