My father-in-law has a double registered mare who lives at our place. Two years ago she had a beautiful blue eyed overo colt by our Hemlock Brooks Egyptian King pinto stallion. This past summer we put her back into the pasture with the stallion. He immediately bred her. We saw him breed her twice on specific dates in August. He has settled every mare he has ever bred here on our farm. We thought she was bred. Although she tends to be on the heavy side she had the dropped belly look this winter. Then two weekends ago we bring her and the stallion into a smaller lot to halter them for the dentist and she goes over to the fence adjoining our Buckeroo stallion's lot, turns her butt to him and starts squirting away. This past weekend she let the pinto stallion mount and breed her. We have not seen her slip a foal or had any indication of a miscarriage such as buzzards.

Has anyone ever had a bred mare exhibit signs of heat and still be in foal?

I think its just excitement...but you could have her ultrasound or palpated to know for sure

. My boy Narko was so good, even as a two year old, he let me know which mares were bred and which were not bred, he was right on too

I have a 34" mare double registered who has been palpated and US in FOAL three times now.

She will cycle her heats every 21 days and will allow the stallion to fully mount and cover her.

(She has been removed from his pen to cut down on bacteria ect entering her because of stallion penetration.)

She still is cycling and has a nice baby belly I have felt movement and shes due in April.

One of my mares will tease up to my stallions 24/7 and she was vet checked in foal and is obviously still carrying it. It was really hard to tell when she was really in heat though

I had a QH/Appy mare that would let this one QH stud breed her any time and she was pregers. We found out he settled her the first breeding. But, she LOVED this stud and no other. She fell in love with him from the first time she saw him. There were 2 other studs at that barn and she would not EVER show any signs of heat for them even when she was not pregnant yet.
