I've been walking an hour each morning since just after the first of the year. Sounds ridiculous, but just back and forth in my house one end to the other with the tv on. But, it gets my heart rate up into the target range for cardio health and I can do it before it's light outside and in any weather.

At first, I was just wearing a pair of Ariats. I mean, they were good enough for me to be married in, so why not to walk in?

But, a friend of mine told me those Walmart tennis / sneaker shoes that look like they have those springs in the heels are really comfortable so I bought a pair. MAN!!! They are SO comfortable for walking. Much better and much lighter than the Ariats. I hate the way these shoes look, but they are fabulous for the task at hand.

Also, since I love these $18 Walmart walking shoes so much, I thought a better brand would be even better, so I ordered some $90 New Balance shoes and don't like them nearly as well. Also have tried Rebok and another brand, and didn't like them as well as the Walmart ones either, which is surprising to me. I probably haven't tried the "right" model in other brands but thought I'd pass along this possitive review of some cheap footwear.

Another thing about Walmart shoes. I probably should be too embarassed to share, but they have these $6 or so black pumps with maybe a 1.5" heel. I think they are called "Comfort First". They just look like basic pumps, not like old lady shoes and not like they are too trendy. Just "classic" looking pumps. I go in and buy like 3-4 (whatever they have in my size) pairs at a time. I tear pumps up in my gravel driveway and these look as good as ones that cost 10x as much.

: Jill did you buy them in the store or did you buy them on-line?

Well my all time personal favorite for comfort shoes are Doc Martins, next to them is adidas. FOr work since I have to wear steal toe its nothing but Sketchers.

Every pair of shoes I own are from Walmart. :new_shocked:

..........so's most of my clothes too.

They really are comfortable, and I couldn't find them online at Walmart.com, only in the store itself.

Ashley, I haven't worn Doc Martens since I was in high school and the "only punk rock girl" in Fauquier County, VA... but as I recall, they were very comfortable, nice and expensive.

Well I dont consider them punk rock shoes, more on the preppy side(so im suprised I even wear them)

Yes they are spendy. I bought them for a nice looking pair of shoes as the rest dont look so nice as I am wareing them everywhere includeing the barn half the time. I also needed a sorta pair of dress shoes. They are as dressy as I get. IF they are comfortable I dont have a problem spending the money.

Oh, no, Jill, how times have changed! The "punk" shoes/boots are now "preppie" ?!?!?

Horrors!

*LOL*

Well, the kind I had looked almost like combat boots! So not at all preppy. I remember, back then, two years in a row I dressed "preppy" for halloween and almost no one but my punk rock friends (guys, I was the only girl) got it. I thought it was really funny since all the "normal" kinds, or lots anyway, dressed punk at Halloween bt didn't get that I was poking fun at them by dressing preppy. Oh well.

*LOL* Jill, sounds like we almost went to the same high school. Hee hee.

Yeah, the Docs I have seen definitely looked wayyy more punk than preppy....I mean penny loafers and the like were "preppy" then.

Liz

Yep, that was how it was!!!

It was 20 years ago almost. Man, I sure did get old...

I remember it was fun to be so "different" and thought it was funny when the "rednecks" would mutter stuff about the "_____ ______ punk rockers with the four colored hair".

One thing I am grateful of is that I went though that phase THEN not in current times. The only lasting scars I have are too many piercings in my ears but if I were that age now adays, I would have holes in my face, I am sure. Which would not really be good for what I do for a living.

The guy I was best friends with who was 6'4" without counting his huge GREEN mohawk went on to become a police officer in CA, and me a stock broker. Who'd have thought? And, both he and I would have been a little horrified if we'd known what we'd grow up to be!

Well again, how many years difference are there in your guys age and mine? Exactly, and there isnt anythign wrong with holes in the face

Jill- I wear Ryka cross trainers for everything( I think they were like $30). I got them from Kohl's.

I bet the Walmart walkers are great too.

Jill and I went to the same high school and graduated the same year. She was the punk rock girl and I was the preppy girl. My how times have changed.

I know it, Kim!!! I think it's amazing how much we have in common now and probably did back then, too, just would not have ever known by looking. I will check out those Ryka's. I need to run into Kohl's anyhow

We do have a lot in common and thank goodness we have become such good friends!

On the Culpeper note:

AND OLD NAVY!!!!!!!!! Wahooo. We are big time.

Chris is really upset! LOL

YAY!!! After all these years and years and YEARS of there being NOTHING for shopping and dining in Culpeper, we are getting some good shopping and some real sit-down restaurants! I love it

It is so much easier to go there than to Fredericksburg -- where there is everything for shopping and dining but so much traffic.

Jill are those the shoes with the actual springs on the bottom? I saw a nurse wearing those when I was in the ER the other day ( Yes I am fine)

and me and raven were totally in awe but didnt want to ask her about them (not sure why) they were a bit bizzare looking but kinda fun as well

Well, they look exactly like rubber springs, but really are just like spiral etched pillars if that makes sense. I'm embarrassed to wear them outside of the house, but I tell you, they are very comfortable and light weight!
