I have been meaning to ask this question for awhile now because I am growing quite tired of bouncing from soap to soap.

I am VERY particular about my shampoo and conditioner. The very best physical feature I have is my hair. I take great pride in my hair... many many people compliment me on it and I want it to look the very best it possibly can. The first thing I notice about someone physically is thier hair. Does it shine? Is it natural looking?

I have used several different types of shampoos and conditioners. I have never been able to depend on the 2 in 1 shampoo/conditioner combo for my conditioner...when I use the 2 in 1, I also use conditioner after.

I can't get my husband to let me go much over 6-7 per bottle for the shampoo or the conditioner. Sorry...that's all he'll allow me. :bgrin I covet my shampoo and conditioner... I keep it hidden in my room and no one but me uses it. Considering the amount of shampoo and conditioner the kids go through I buy the Suave and VO5 for them. My daughters have naturally shiney, vibrant, healthy hair and I LOVE to see their hair as natural as possible without junk in it.

I have used Tres semme... Herbal Essance (that's the one I stuck with for a very long time), Fructis, and currently I'm trying out the Sun Silk ( love those "get Hair-apy" commercials). I'm somewhat satisfied with the Sun Silk, but honestly it's not doing as much for my hair as the Tres Semme did. The reason I switched from the Tres Semme is it didn't smell as good as the Herbal Essance. It has GOT to smell dreamy, with the right combination of floral and fruit.

Please please don't advise the Panteen... it made my hair fall out and I've re-tried it several different times. Every time the first wash is great, but along the 3rd or 4th I get large amounts of hair loss. No good... I need my hair. (I'm kind of attatched to it ya know.

: )

So is there a Shampoo out there that is a gives you the results of Tres Semme but gives you thr fragrance of Herbal Essence? The number one thing I wnat is SHINE>.. and Lots of it. Shine, then scent, then strength, and then price. Any suggestions?

Ok... now body soap. I can't use the liquid stuff... I just never can get the right amount of that stuff and I either swim it it or I use way too little. Plus with the kids it would become bubble bath. :bgrin

So I would love to hear what soaps you use. I am really wanting a soap that smells nothing less than amazing, that rinses clean and easy, and that leaves you feeling as if you're wrapped in a towel made of fruity flowers. Not one that makes you itchey, or gives you that tight, dry feeling skin... a very good soap.

You know what I'd love to get? Natural soaps. But I don't know the difference in them...so many different ingredients that I don't know which ones are responsible for what benefit (i.e. softer skin, scent, clean rinsing etc.). I know I HATE when I find a natural soap maker online and thier soaps are about 4. per bar and they are TINY BARS !!!
default_wacko.png
: I want real soap in a size big enough that if I drop it I don't have to worry about it running down the drain hole! :bgrin

Ok, so if I went with natural soaps... I know I want oatmeal, and aloe. What else should I Look for?

Oh man...one year my niece gave me some soap that I had never used before ever in my life! It was NICE!!!! I do not know exactly what it had in it but I do know the fragrance was vanilla...then it had some scrubby things in it that would exfoliate. I really need to ask her what it was and where she got it.

As far as shampoo goes.....I do use Pantene but had been thinking on switching over to something different. I've used Fructise (sp?) and it leaves my hair limp. Suave and Dove leaves it way too limp and flyaway. I don't do conditioner or shampoos WITH the conditioners in it I should say because well, then I'd never be able to do anything with my hair. Herbal Essences made my head itch...I think it was the ones with the flowery rose hips. Shampoos are a gamble from what I've leanred. The girls in our family all pretty much use different ones because they don't all work the same for everybody. Some have dryer hair than others and therefore need more conditioning...so forth and so on....

Oh years ago I tried Aussie...love the "purple-ie" smell! Maybe I'll go back to that for a spell. Sorry I have'nt been much help to you....I hope you find one that works. :bgrin

GEEZ!!! What a load of typos!!!

I think everyone is different, you will have to experiment.

I only use Herbal Essences shampoo and Pantene conditioner.

For body wash, I like the liquid with a loofah. Prefer Dove, will use other stuff if it smells good.

aussie just came out with another new shampoo/conditioner all in one for flat hair. I soooooooo love it!!

:saludando: I use Panteen 2in1 shampoo (hydrant curls) and I use Panteen Conditioner (hydrant curls).

Its the only one I feel comfortable using as I have real curly hair.

I can use almost anything and my hair is fine with it, but do have a few favorites. I only use liquid body wash, as bar soap dries my skin.

I like Back-to-Basics salon shampoo and conditioners, and they work well with our well water. I also use Pantene 2in1 and the Suave Naturals (and Suave salon copies). When I was in college I loved Joico products, but they don't work as nicely with our well water, as they did with city water when I was in school.

NONE of these common products are really good for your hair. I won't go into a long explanation, but they do contain harsh ingredients that can be toxic and that can strip your hair of oils, so you usually have to follow up with the conditioner to coat your hair with another ingredient that ultimately will not allow your hair to act naturally (recieving and releasing moisture from the air). The unnatural coat is what makes your hair feel "silky smooth." Eventually, these products also leave a build up and their effectiveness diminishes which is when most people switch to something they think is working "even better" because the ingredients differ slightly. Some products may also contain unnatural and harsh enhancers, brighteners, etc. and these, too, really aren't good for your hair.

That said, my hair and body are very important to me, too. Before I knew better, I would use any of those common products already mentioned here, and others. I didn't give a second thought to blow drying, curling, hairspray, gell, etc., but when I started looking into more natural products I began to wonder...

Switch to today and I use only natural body soaps, lotions, shampoos, conditioners, toothpaste, dishwashing soaps, spray cleaners, laundry detergent, fertilizers, etc. Even the products I use in my at home grooming parlour on pets are natural. Granted, not all natural products are wonderful for you (it takes some research to get it right), but many companies offer very affordable and healthier options to what most people out there are currently using. Really do your research and don't be fooled because of the word "Natural," "Herbal," etc. appears on the bottle. Some products will work better for some people, but here's a short list of product lines you can try:

Burt's Bees

Jason

Avalon Organics

Nature's Gate

Each of these offers several different types of products, including shampoos, conditioners, lotions and body washes. These products usually cost less than $10. each and as a result, I've come to enjoy keeping several different brands on hand to use depending upon the day. It might take a bit to get used to the low sudsing action of the shampoos, for example, but once you learn that suds aren't what does the cleaning, you'll be thrilled to dump the drying salt ingredient that makes other shampoo products so bubbly. Try using less of these natural products as you go and I'll bet you'll be surprised when you still get the same great results.

In short, your hair and body will love you for this... and so will the environment!

: I don't wear perfume but love good smelling soaps.

Well, not sure of your hair type - but I have thick, naturally curly hair, and my "OTC" choice for conditioner is definitely Infusium. LOVE the stuff. For a salon product - I think it's a line called "T.G. I. Sexy" or something like that. . .haven't bought the salon stuff myself in awhile, but next time I'm at a salon and there is a sale it's on my list.

Soap - there was one kind I used once upon a time and should go back to it - loved it - I BELIEVE it was Yardley, and it was an almond and oatmeal bar, and it was just YUMMY. As a matter of fact, thanks for the reminder, I'm putting that on my grocery list for this week!

P.S. My hairdresser friend reports Pantene (at least the conditioner) as a big no no. Says it just adds a bunch of stuff to the shaft of the hair that makes it seem silky, yada yada, but eventually just leads to buildup.

I use to not really care about which shampoo/conditioner, but I bought some Matrix shampoo/conditioner/hairspray once at the saloon about a year ago and I love it. If I don't have it, I get very crabby!

Body soap really doesn't matter much to me but I try to buy Dial with the little grains of sand like in it (???) but I am picky about my body lotion. I really like Origins Origins Precipitation Invisible bodysuit, it is not fragrent at all. I also like lotions from Victoria Secrets and Bath and Body Works because they smell so great, but sometimes can be a little thick and don't seem to soak in as well.

Oh gosh...what a GREAT bunch of answers !!! :aktion033: :new_shocked:

Thank you all soooo much for your recommendations and advice. I have been wavering back and forth with the natural body soaps..> I'm thinking it's going to be a definate Yes on those almond and vanilla.... oatmeal and vanilla...oh boy do they ever sound very very smelly good. (I better not tell my kids the ingredients or they might take a bite out of one

: :bgrin )

Ok... so here's my thinking. I do want great shampoo. But I have a little reason I asked that I kept tucked behind me.

I've always always always had dark, straight hair. Just dark striaght hair. One time when I was 18 I soaked my head in peroxide :new_shocked: I had red hair for awhile lol....

So I'm ready for a change. I've never been the checmical type of person. But I have made the decision that Im going to get my VERY hot and heavy looong hair cut off... (from belt line to above the "bra line".) and I'm going to have it dyped a very light dishwater blonde.... maybe even a golden blonde. No yellow, and no white ... nope. Just a big fat change. ( a mid-lifer at 32?

: )

So since I do not like chemical things I wanted to make double sure I got very very good shampoo and conditioner once I had this done. I figure if I don't like it I'll keep it for a couple of months, and then go put it back to the dark dark brown/black color it's always been *yawn*.

I'm heavy blooded native american and I've always had the hair that goes along with the look. I wanted to shake things up a little bit and see what I might find under all that hair. I cut it off often. Normally at the bra line, then within a year it has made its way right back down to the belt line.

I'm going to check a few salons before I choose one to "do the deed"... I dont want to walk out with green hair up to my ears. :bgrin

If you have a Sams Club near you they have a Members Mark shampoo that you don't use a conditioner with. It has natural oils in it that condition your hair and really make it shine.

I've always had very dry skin and hair and my girlfriend started making Natural Products for almost everything (including sheath cleaner for horses!). She makes THE BEST soaps called Luxury Soap which lasts a long time and smells devine w/o drying my skin out EVER! The soaps are expensive but I'll never use anything else and if you can keep the kids away from them they last a long time.

An added bonus is that the closet you store the unused soaps in smells like them when you open the door...INCLUDING my sheets. I'm a vanilla fan but her almond soaps are super smelling too.

Heidi's Herbals (www.heidisherbals.com ) is her business and she's excellent to work with PLUS she'll try to make whatever you need! These soaps have saved my skin!!!

And my husband always asks for her after shave balm for Christmas. Those smell yummy tooooo......

I use Aussie shampoo and conditioner. I love it. I have curly hair and it makes it so nice and a lot less frizzy.

I use the Tresseme shampoo and conditioners as well... "salon quality at home for less" LOL Just like the ad says, its true! It doesn't smell as nice as some of the other shampoos but it works great and at $5 or less for a HUGE bottle (900ml) it really is a huge savings. I don't worry that my boyfriend uses the conditioner too (and he is a salon product buyer! He was only using "Redkin" products when I met him).

For bodywash I am currently using the Axe stuff he bought me for Christmas (I had a bottle leftover that my brother left when he moved out. I was using it so my BF thought I must love the stuff, hey he tried!) But the best for my skin is the Baby Dove bars. I used to love smelly soaps, but now that I'm older and own, *gasp*, expensive purfumes I don't worry too much about having a really nice smelling soap, though it does make showers nicer.
