Ok so here is Chevy, he was born April 29th, I was in the process of moving to my new house, and mom was there for foaling. I didn't get to see him until the next day, she said that night when he was born, he looked almost like a buckskin color. The next day I went down to see him in the morning and he looked like a silverish color with brown through his hair, with a black mane & ears. Now, hes a month old, he has a light buckskin color around his muzzle, and lighter brown and dark barn mixed with silver & black through his body, with a black strip down his back. CAN SOMEONE help me on what color he is?? I first thought black but with all that brown and buckskin color in his body I dont think so?? His dad is a silver bay, and dam is black (not sure if she carries creme) His sire has thrown alot of grullas buckskins etc. Here he is... They are by no means pretty shots but the ones I could find that showed his color the most.

Here is his sire Modern Mister Mister

Black based, looks black to me, might carry silver, but I would expect the mane and tail to be lighter, but I could be wrong.

Black Sabino Overo would be my guess. The sabino roaning puts the lighter hairs throughout the coat and lightens the black. If the sire carries LWO, this colt could too. It would be worth testing for.

Sire is LWO + And I am almost positive this guys is too, as most of the sires foals are LWO +. I dont know much about sabino, but think the mother carries it as she has a lot of speckled white where her black markings meet the white.

I have a colt this year exactly the same color. Dad is a buckskin dun, mom is a silver dapple. The colt is black.

Often black colts are born a silvery/gray color and when they shed out, they are black. The silvery hairs take on a whitish color with the camera or even in the sunlight.

Cute Baby

The possiabilities on his color are endless!! You need to go back a generation or 2 on colors to find out what all is back there. There is alot of stuff that hides. I wouldn't look to your stud for the the bucksin color just looking at his picture, but rather the mares. The theory is for your stud to carry the Cr (Creme gene for buckskin and palomino) his coat color should be a more gold/yellow color it seems to have to much red, the CR gene works on the base coat and leaves the mane and tail alone So it looks like your stallion has the bay Gene and the silver dapple gene which works on the black color and lightens it. But.. there is always exceptions I have seen buckskins that have a reddish tint to their coats. Plus it is just an opinion from a pic! So I would guess that your baby is going to be a silver dapple or maybe a brown bay. again, I would check the Sire and dams pedigrees on color to help rule out what he can't be!! What ever color he turns out he is very cute!! Good luck let us know what he turns out as!!

Very nice colt!!!!

:wub He looks silver dapple/silver black to me as he is too light to be just black. My black babies were never quite that light and they didn't have that slight red tone on their faces and ears.

Have to agree w/Riverdance and Albahurst, the colt is black, if he were silver, his mane and tail wouldn't be black. So I'm guessing he doesn't carry silver at all!
