If I were to say I wanted the total opposite of what everyone else wants in a mini (Refined, thin, tiny) what could I expect to get? This is just for fun BTW. :bgrin

Maybe something like this:

I do like the refined minis, but I also like the "thick" ones too! By the way...he is for sale :bgrin

I have my "Course, Thick" little guy as well. I had no idea what I was getting when I got him. I know so much more now then I did a year ago. :bgrin I just wish mine was registered.

Shell, you can get him hardshipped ;)

You could get this... You will see him this weekend. He is extremely fat. Ever wonder what a fat horse looks like jumping?

Here's mine. He was where we "started" in minis. He's 18 now and hubby can drive him so he'll probably be here forever. Mr. Chips

Interesting question!!! Especially since so many truly coarse / thickish minis have been described by their in love owners as refined or even ultra refined! It's all in the eyes of the beholder, that's for sure.

For the ones shown right here so far, I think I'd describe them more stocky than coarse. Coarse, to me, pretty much means unattractive and very plain, and that's not how I'd describe the ones I see on this thread.

This is an interesting one. I have my first mini and she is like the ones in the photos. I am hoping to breed her to a much smaller stallion one day. But can i ask why you think anyone would look for a stocky mini? Im just a beginner and very curious at this topic.

My opinion of thick is a bigger boned mini that also would have a thicker, not refined head.

Some I see on here are boarderline for me.

I would say you are not alone my hubby likes the old style minis that are rock solid and thickly built he says they dont look like grayhounds. He also by the way likes the old style beef cattle that are wide and close to the ground so there are those out there who still love the old kind because they have substance.

I have to agree Jill. For the most part if minis didn't "grow up" I could say that many were truly refined.

Minis may look refined as babies, yearlings and even two year olds but for the most part they all get much more stocky looking as older horses then what I ever would call a "refined" horse. Now that is not to say I can't think of a good number of really refined miniature horses. I won't mention names because I don't want to leave any out and someone take offense. There really are many people out there with refined minis.......not SKINNY or NARROW with a total lack of substance.

And I agree with you, Carol! Go figure

I like to see REFINED minis that are also built to DO things and do not look like a stiff wind would knock them over. After all, it's only so much fun to just "look" at a horse. I like them to be both beautiful and fully functional

I believe Shell meant Stocky as that is the kind of horse she told me she was looking for, not coarse

This is a buttermilk buckskin gelding who has the stocky "Quarter Horse" look. Hubby is training him to drive and he is sweet as can be and will be for sale after he is trained. A very kind and loving horse!
