Can't for the life of me think of what this might be. It was mentioned by Kim Crabby Chicken. Would like to have some in my foal kit. I have KY but would like the slickeriest stuff on the planet.
What is J Lube?

J Lube is a powder that when mixed with water will give you a bucketful of the slickeriest lube you can imagine - you will need a pump and a piece of tubing to get it into the mare, but it a small amount of the powder goes a long way!
A caution it needed tho -- if you use J Lube on a dystocia - be sure to tell your vet's in the case of them needing to do a c-section - the J-Lube is a product that you do NOT want to introduce into the body cavity of the mare -

It is very cheap, but going "out of style" due to the risk of kidney disease if the mare has a rupture of any kind. If the lube gets into the peritoneal cavity it can be deadly. eNasco.com sells it, I think its $9 per bottle, and that will last you forever. It works well about 1/4 cup to 3.5c water. To remove it use LOTS of water, or salt. It will make a HUGE mess; do NOT get the powder on anything you need to grip!

Would it be better to use something else? I see there are several types for sale at Jeffers, Septi-Lube, Lubiseptol, Lube General? I guess they would all have the same risks to right?
We get a product called "Nolva-Lube" from our vet. It's basically KY jelly blended with Nolvasan. It looks like a Blue Jelly.
I haven't seen it sold in catalogs, but I don't know why individuals can't create their own version by gooping up with KY and dipping into a bucket of Nolvasan at the last minute before going in and using it with a mare.

Septi-Lube by Anchor, a cleaning lubricant for obstetric procedures, passing stomach tubes etc, Its blue.

Mary that sounds like a safer bet. I love J-Lube, and would use it in an emergency. But it sounds like they are finding out it can be dangerous in the wrong situation. I will get something else to use next year when we have our couple foals.
