Hi all,

I hardly ever post here, mostly just a lurker for all the good info and wise wisdom. I am hoping to show in a Liberty class or two in the future and would like to know from all you amateur & expert show people....what songs have been over used? I am looking for something original and I am new to showing so I have no clue what has been used allot or is not acceptable. Would love to hear your input please. THANKS!

Don't use any songs with a sexual tone, or bad language. The only ones I have heard that are over used are when on the; west coast they use a song alot that has what sounds like chip monks, I hate it! Some others that are used over and over are everybody dance now, and I like to move it move it. Chose something upbeat but at the same time acceptable for all, such as young and old. I would recommend somthing disco, country, or pop, or maybe even oldies as long as your horse can move with the beat.

Two songs that have been done to death are Tequila and Walking on Sunshine

Country music seems to be hit or miss. In my opinion it is way over done.

I was just at a show where they played a song 6 times!!!!

come on, really!

Dont know the name as it had no words but was tecno high beet annoying music!!!

I was also at a show where the same exhibitor used the same song with all of her horses! Sooooo annoying! I recommend picking something that DOES NOT involve electric guitar!!!! Its really loud over the loud-speaker and gets really old! Ive seen people use symphonys and modern country an pop. Im in the process of changing my liberty songs so ill be checking here to see what else is not recommended

You never know... I thought I had something fairly original, had used it 2 or 3 times before, but at the last show I wasn't the only one using it. I think you also need to keep the judges in mind and bring music that isn't going to be offensive to them. I've seen kids pick music they like, ie loud, sort of borderline acceptable lyrics, and I have to think sometimes the judges must be cringing lol, esp if they have to hear it over and over again.

Just pick something upbeat, happy, and overly appropriate. I always like the song "walking on sunshine" it's common but still my favorite!

Good points are given when the horse's action FITS the music!

Don't pick slow music if your horse moves fast and don't pick fast if your horse is a slow mover

Pretty much my thoughts- you need to match something with the movement and rhythm of your horse. Know that you need to have appropriate music for an audience of all ages and types. Stick with something up beat and fun.

Liberty over is showing right now through the live feed link, you can get an idea of good songs watching, if you can on-line (I know some don't have high speed).

Thanks for all the input!! I hope more forum members reply, I have a few songs in mind but like to hear what others are thinking.

I was surprise at how many different types of music was used. Some matched the horses gate very well...others, not so much.

I didn't watch it all, but quite a bit, some of the songs were great, some not so much.

I work as a center ring steward for several shows. In visiting with Judges I've asked what they like and what they don't like in regards to Liberty Music. The one thing that keeps coming up is rap music. Most tell me that they just hate it. Pick something that flatters your horse, not take away and don't time your music to the exact time it takes to make the run. I've seen where the music starts and you might have a problem getting the halter off and now you've run out of music on the end due to trouble in the beginning. Go get music that is instrumental only as it adds to the movement of the horse. Listen to several types while you practice with your mini at home and find the right one that fits him.

I have used that Jai-ho song from Slumdog Millionare. My first go at liberty. Not sure the judge liked it because my horse was awesome and had the best catch (knelt down and she came to me) and I never placed. Oh well.

Next time I might use the instrumental from Harry Potter. Country I hate seeing in liberty...Put me to sleep, snore.
