Every year I get so excited reading about all of the new foals. I have only had one mini foal and that had such a sad ending when I lost my Luna after moving heaven and earth to save her little life. I have had minis for five years now, obtaining the best bloodlines and the best quality minis I could afford. I now have a very nice little herd and I finally feel like I am going to try to breed again. I am starting to pray already that #1: I get my mares safely in foal and they carry to term, and #2: that my mares and babies make it easily through the birthing process. I have paid my dues...it is time for me to have some luck here!!!

I also want to publicly thank my wonderful friend and mentor, Stacy Score of Mountain Meadows Miniatures. She has patiently supported me through MANY phone calls and helped me so much with the decision processes along the way. She is the best!!!

So here is who I am going to breed this year! Post yours too! I want to see what crosses people are doing and are excited about.

This year it is all about Alladdin. I bought him back in 2003, he was my very first mini. Here are a couple of new pictures of him that I love, I think they show what I see when I look at his beautiful, intelligent, darling little self.

I am going to breed him to Flirt! I am hoping that I get a pretty silver bay from this cross!!!

CP2007-grandchamp1.jpg

I am also going to breed him to Stepper! I think this will be a very nice cross.

Well I am so excited I can't think of anything else right now. I will be an absolute mess when the babies are coming, I am sure! I don't care, fillies or colts...as long as they are healthy I will take either gender!

Let's see what crosses you are looking forward to, and what you are hoping for!

I'm not sure who I'll be breeding to DunIT here this year. He will probably have 2 brides for 2009, but waiting to see what happens with his brides from last season right now.

Down at Erica's, I have two mares who will come home in a couple months. One, Erica's Double Dipped is currently in foal to Big City (I'm just a tiny bit excited LOL). She's a perlino BTU granddaughter (Bandito daughter). She will be bred to Erica's Res. National Champion, Taker, before coming home

default_wub.png
You can see him on Erica's website. He's double bred Redboy and he is a gorgeous silver bay.

Then also hanging out with Erica is Erica's Sweet as Sugar, who is another perlino BTU granddaughter / Bandito daughter. Sweetie is already getting to know our National Champion Erica's Echos of My Destiny (HOF). Sweetie will come home carrying my first Destiny foal, and I am very excited about this one who's not even cooking yet.

hopefully, fingers crossed, to my new girl Flaby's Society Belle:

I am hoping all goes well as I bought her bred so it will be my first time with doing the first step to that. I have worked at many horse farms where I have helped the process or watched it, but it was all big horse farms and we mainly did AI. It should be interesting and I am hoping all goes well for my first time!

Jill, I just bet you are excited! I would hardly be able to stand it if I had a Taker foal on the way! I tried to buy one of his last year but wouldn't you know...NFS. ;) Guess I have good taste. LOL! I wonder what your Destiny baby will turn out as, color-wise? That is an interesting combo. Do you think Destiny is a smoky black, dark silver, or liver chestnut? He is a very unique color.

Cowgurl, I am like you, I came from the big horse background. I have been around a lot of births from the big guys. Your minis are very nice, I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors! Isn't it exciting!!!

Hmm...I'll be breeding one if all goes well. This will be the last breed for my mare. Twin Acres KerryBlue will be bred to Winners Cirlce BS Boomerang. He's a double registered buckeroo grandson with multiple national top tens and grands and reserves in halter. I'm excited! He's a bay and white pinto and my mare throws towards the stallion (almost all the time). So we're hoping for color.

I am so excited for our 2008 foals!!

First I have Fancy

surpriseheadx_small-245x240.jpg

To our herd sire Harley...

harleytree-260x278.jpg

I hope the pics come up and are the correct size....

Well, we bought our new herdsire in 2006 and only crossed him on our appaloosa mare as she was the only one open at the time, that cross resulted in our black snowcap colt Vader
default_smile.png
For 2008 we have all five of our broodmares in foal to him for his first full foal crop for us, so depending on the results of these foals, we'll see who we breed back!! We also have two new mares in our line-up who we personally have not foaled out yet, but have had some nice foals, so anxious to see what they give us with our boy!

This past November we put our Gold Champagne Pinto Stallion, Rolex, in with our Gray Champagne Mare, Rose. We don't think they "took" though.
default_unsure.png
They are both virgins, (is that ok to say on here?).
default_blush.png
Then they also had a sort of complicated "time of it", being that he is so small (31") and she is a whopper at 37"... I honestly don't think they were able to figure out how to over come the size obstacle between them.
default_unsure.png
So we gave them a break from each other through December. Then around mid-January we decided to give them another go of it. Hubby "says" he saw them working it out around that time, but I've only seen them "try and try again".
default_rolleyes.gif
Here lately though, the past couple weeks of February, he seems to have lost interest in her, so I don't know if that means they were finally "able" and she must be in foal now...or if they might have decided to just forget about it?
default_unsure.png

Now, I seperate them after morning feed where she's in with the other girls, and only put her back in with him through the night, because she's an escape artist (she's just too smart for her little britches) and his corral seems to keep her pretty well "put" where I don't have to worry about the periodic midnight treks off in the woods after her.
default_wacko.png

Anyways, depending on when and IF she took by him, we'll be expecting their very first baby sometime by end of '08 to early '09. We'll likely be having her vet checked in a few weeks to know for sure though.

default_wub.png

We have wedding/honeymoon plans to work on for now for our son, who just got married!
default_aktion033.gif
So for the next few weeks we'll be mostly working on all that for now.
default_wub.png
They had a small "official" ceremony last week with just family there to witness, and they'll be having a formal ceremony the end of March, just before he's to leave back for Iraq.
default_unsure.png

EDITED TO ADD PICS: Sorry about dropping off like that, the ferrier just pulled up. But he finished the ones for this month's visit and is on his way now. So anyways, here are the pics of our expected "momma and papa to be"...

We really want to breed our Buck Echo granddaughter (Cay Lees Omegas Champagne On Ice who had the false pregnancy last year) to our now-3 year old stallion SRF Buckhot. But we are still waiting for his first foal due in late May/early June and would like to see what he produces first. But we might not be able to wait.... We would also like to re-breed at least one of the mares due to foal this year - Vermilyea Farms Exotic Exposure (a Jefferson Halls Gambler daughter) or Jones Call Me Blue Admiration ( a Blue Boy bred Cross Country Call Me Awesome daughter) to Buckshot. All of the mares and the stallion can be seen on our website at www.ontargetminiatures.com.

I will be waiting to evaluate who each mare will be crossed on, when their foals arrive this year and then make a decision on their best cross.

09 foals will be out of;

Cross Country Take My Breath Away HOF - a Res. National Champion, who is a son and grandson of Redboy

Little Kings Big City Buck - a multi National Champion producer, and son of Buckeroo

Little Kings B T Buck Bandito - a multi National Champion producer and BTU son

Erica's Echos of My Destiny HOF - National Champion, grandson of both Buck Echo and Double Destiny

and then a stallion in the wings to try a few mares on.....

Possibly may try a breeding with a couple two year olds;

Erica's Big City Prankster Bucks; two time Res. National Champion

D&S A Pharaohs Fortune; National GRAND Champion Stallion

Oh Amy, you make me smile with your excitement
default_biggrin.png

As for me, (knock on wood because I hate to count chickens before they hatch and the 2008 ones haven't even hatched yet!) I am also super excited for 2009. I've been slowly adding/looking for mares for what seems like forever. I still need to make my final decisions, but I am really excited for the line-up I have for Red Alert next year.

Prince is going to be either a very happy stallion or a very tired one! Baylee on the other hand is going to be madder than a wet hen this year! Pretty much all my mares are going to Prince since he was gone last year, as well as a select number of outside mares that the owners have honored us with the decision to breed their precious girls to Prince.
