Been TIRED watching these mares! Karrel has been great watching them with me. Awesome hubby!
:
He works late and I wait to cook dinner for us, so we had just finished dinner at 3:30 AM. He took the mare TV to bed with him but I kept the pager. I'm so used to having the pager turned off while I watch mare TV that I didn't have it turned on for 20 minutes after he took the TV. I had JUST turned it on when 20 seconds later it went off. I got up and went into the bedroom to see the TV and see who was doing what and saw Sassy down. I grabbed my box and ran out!
She had her rump in the dug out corner where her feed box is. The hole was full of her water and the foal was out and still totally in the sac. There was only about 5" between Sassy's noonie and the fence. Foal was smashed into the stock panel! I couldn't get to the foal! I grabbed Sassy's hind legs and pulled but it made it worse for the foal so I had to grab Sassy's front legs and pull her almost 2 feet from the fence! I pounced on the baby, ripped the sac off, wiped the nose and made sure it was breathing. It was face down in that water from the birth. So I got the baby out of that. By this time hubby got there. I couldn't breathe or talk. My lungs wouldn't fill with air. Sassy weighs a good 300 lbs or more and pulling the whole mare, not just a pivot swing just did me in.
This was her 3rd foal and she didn't mess around LOL! It took me a while to be able to breathe again or talk. We got it all cleaned up and them bedded. Baby pooped twice, ate, ate and ate some more.
It's a FILLY!!! Like a reverse Frame LOL! We have the white on the back! She looks cocoa, but she is a black pinto! I can't tell yet if she has blue eyes but I think not.
This filly is FINE! She was just born today so I can't wait till she unfolds! But she's just lovely! I'm SO thankful and happy!
The sire is Magic (29.5") owned by Marion Maschke, Oasis Miniature Horses in TX.
And here is one of our home bred mares Sassy and her baby GIRL! Sassy has had 3 pinto fillies in a row now! I'm so proud of our girl! She foaled a week earlier this time (311)
*HAPPY SIGH* Thanks for letting me share!
