    Pinworm Treatment

Cautions like this one can be from concern for high concentrations on mucous membranes, throat or stomach. Regardless, I would consider splitting a dose containing more than the recommended max between two or more applications, spaced a few minutes apart. Probably excessive caution but who needs...

    Skin condition - extremely concerned

Spraying (or better still) wiping your horse with a pyrethroid-based insecticide is worth a try. Better not to let it reach skin, hence wipe not spray. Could be rain rot I suppose but seems unlikely. A useful recipe for rain rot is equal parts of DMSO (wear gloves!) AND albendazole or...

    Pinworm Treatment

The CDC recommends similar doses for pinworm in humans but notes 'Do not exceed 1 g per dose of the suspension'. Doubling your dose of 12 cc to 24 cc might be a little high. Here's the cite: https://reference.medscape.com/drug/pin-rid-pin-x-pyrantel-pamoate-342667

    Button image

While it is a Western habit to talk of ground-tying a horse, the usual meaning is to note the horse remains in position when the reins are dropped. Over night camping with a horse can use a high-line - a rope tied between two trees a little higher than the horse's head. The tether line is...

    Button image

I could find only one match, on a button offered by Etsy, Sweden. This appears to be a hoof hobble, of the kind used on milking cows, or on recently calved cattle. Hobbles were sometimes used on the horse's cannon bone (Metatarsal or metacarpal) and on the pastern in cows. Rope hitches can...

    Dapper Dan

I notice on Adequan and Legend - Healing Your Horse's Joints — Irongate Equine Clinic "Adequan is a polysulfated glycosaminoglycan. It is utilized by the cartilage matrix of the joint and also affects the Hyaluronic Acid (HA) concentrations in the joint significantly increasing from 24 through...

    Dapper Dan

That was me clutching at straws. Apparently lactase is produced in the mammalian small intestine, and abnormal levels are supposed to be a defect of old-age, so that's some thing. The sadness fades, sooner or later.

    Dapper Dan

No help for Dan, but it would be interesting to hear if he had 24 hour access to water, and did any children have an easter egg hunt in his pasture?

    Help with kicking

Horses are not in general, approached from behind. That the kicking direction. Horses can and will bite too but an apple wafer presented say once in five visits, sets up a presumption to present their nose. In the last twenty years, I have been bitten once. I had a nervous horse at the gate...

    Fun Horse Facts

Another random fact. Paints can have a solid body color, but pintos must have white patches

    Grooming question

Human urine is nearly sterile and I expect horse urine is sterile too - so that should not be a cause for concern.

Why do 2 my horses have visable spine and hip bones...

That does not look like a skinny horse to me. No hollow between ribs & hips. No vally each side of spine?? Still I am not there. Alfalfa and add soaked beetroot to supercharge it - maybe add oats too?

    Farm Gate

I hear you but I want to give fire fighters plenty of slack: they put their lives on the line at times, for zero payment outside of cities in the US

    Farm Gate

The only practical access to my horse is through a 15 ft farm gate. This fell off its hinges some time ago, and so I tied the hinge side up with rope pro temp. It is now too rickety to open without risking a fall. The landowner mentioned the local volunteer fire service may have played apart in...

    Working at the Polls

The dead man won 86% of the vote. The vote proceeded as required by state law. Cannot stop the presses to reprint the ballot forms after a candidate dies there.

    Salt?

Mineralized salt blocks are normally left out in the weather (but not in water) because they are rain resistant.

    Salt?

Online is not the way to buy big blocks - stores with farm supplies, like Atwoods, Tractor Supply will sell 40 or 50 lb mineralized blocks under $10 - BUT they are HEAVY! though they last many months put down outside.

    Salt?

Why would a person buy sixth the amount, for twice the price? Convenience, possibly?
