Triple Crown is still an independent company, but they do not have their own mills, so in some regions Purina mills their feed for them, all work is done to Triple Crown specs with Triple crown formulas. The Timothy Balance Cubes, as far as I know, are still manufactured by Ontario Dehy in...

Both Triple Crown Safe Starch Forage and triple Crown Naturals Timothy Balance cubes are low carb forage products, the Safe Starch is usually available in more places, the lower fat in the Timothy Balance cubes might make it the preferred product for some horses. I wish I could readily get...

    Best time to clip

Looks like you are in Florida, so while it does get cold, it doesn't get as cold as more northern states, so you should be fine to clip now and get him comfortable, and more hair will likely grow in plenty of time for winter weather. Perhaps get a rain sheet and a light liner for cooler temps.

What's your best weight loss advice?

Don't crash diet her and be sure to feed at least a ration balancer to ensure she has the nutrients she needs, even though she doesn't need extra calories. Maintenance dose of a ration balancer is 1/4-1/3 pound per day, depending on the size of the mini; it won't increase until last trimester...

What's your best weight loss advice?

I've read it way too many times on the FB mini groups... Sellers say there is no way the mare can be pregnant, only to find out later (when you have the evidence); an intact young colt was still with the mares, a stallion escaped for just a short period of time, the new "gelding" wasn't a...

What's your best weight loss advice?

I'd test for pregnancy, if she's open, then work on her diet. If she is open, safe dieting is to feed 1.5% of current weight or 2% of ideal weight daily in forage, whichever is greater, making adjustments as weight is lost (all she would need for "grain" is a ration balancer to fill in...

Are your babies born with blue eyes?

I only trust a small handful of commentors on the two color groups I'm on on FB, they do know what they are talking about; but some things are still being researched, so there isn't a definitive answer.

Are your babies born with blue eyes?

I haven't honestly paid attention to the foals born here; but I've read on the equine color groups on FB that most foals are born with bluish eyes that darken with age, unless there is a white pattern causing blue eyes or double cream color, which has blue eyes.

    2024 crafter's delight - whatcha working on?

Made a quilt with the other panels from the yard of fabric, this one is very simple and small, only 36x36" at the most. Boy was that panel bright.

Maybe one bit of information will help you give up BOSS. While it can give a shiny coat, it's marketed to birds, so not tested for aflatoxins.

Behind catching up on this thread. Our crops are barely in the ground, and won't be harvested until August, and some into September. We don't thaw out some years until Mother's Day; but wheat can be seeded in March or April, as long as the snow is gone.

    farrier question

That makes sense, might take a little to get used to the slightly different angle a full-size horse would be using the mini stand, but the full-size horse with stiff joints will probably tolerate the lower height better.

    2024 crafter's delight - whatcha working on?

Yes. [I made it with all my favorite panels from the fabric, but it's still available, as I have fabric to make myself a quilt with just Border Collies and Australian Shepherds. ;) ]

    2024 crafter's delight - whatcha working on?

I was mistaken, top right is an Akita; the Shiba is bottom middle (it says "shiba inu love" on the block). I took another pic, I think it turned out better than the other one. The quilt is about 42"x42".

    2024 crafter's delight - whatcha working on?

It's completed, but the quilting is very basic on it. Let me pull it out and double check which dog it is on that quilt. I have a second one as well, but all different dogs.

    2024 crafter's delight - whatcha working on?

Unless it's raining, I rarely sew in the summer.

    2024 crafter's delight - whatcha working on?

I think it's a Shiba Inu, but I'd have to look at the quilt (some of the blocks have the breed name on them, some didn't).

    2024 crafter's delight - whatcha working on?

Most of my crafting is in the winter, when there are plenty of dark outside hours. And, on rainy days, when I don't want to be outside. I'm particularly prolific if the weather is extra crappy, so stuck inside longer. Our last quilt guild meeting of the season was last week, I put my...

    2024 crafter's delight - whatcha working on?

I think I have pics of my last couple projects, although, perhaps not finished pics. I have another dog quilt, but no picture. I may have shared a pic of the pink/purple rings quilt, can't remember.

    farrier question

Most of the farriers I've used, do use a hoof stand for full-size horses, now; but when I first got my horses, they all put the hoof on the knee/thigh to finish the toe/wall of the hoof. With the minis, I rasp one-handed and hold with the other, as I'm too tall to use my knee, they find it...
