    Little Bit

Tallest of the herd. Bay (smokey?) with bald face, blue eye, & 4 socks. About 36" Very calm, sweet, gentle, and tractable. Sore/lame much of the time. Sometimes extremely unwilling to walk - lays frequently in stall with other horses standing in same stall, me cleaning the stall, and...

  6. Redman

    Redman

Finest boned of the herd -- most "miniature-like" to me. Chestnut/sorrel with star & one sock. About 32" Significantly overweight - croup & tail head with thick fat pads, crest fat pads as well. Sore/lame much of the time. Actively objects to hoof picking when sore/lame...

  9. Kody

    Kody

The oldest of the herd. Chestnut/sorrel with roached mane & thin stripe down his face. Significantly pot bellied. Decent feet/soundness, but stiff joints when picking up feet for cleaning. Finer boned than Sundance, but coarser than Redman

SunDance harnessed - more close up of questionable area

I am not sure if this harness can be used for a single pony/mini pulling a forecart with shafts. The backband/saddle is very different than I'm used to. Please help me if you can.

He's got the best feet of the bunch. The farrier took his feet down to fresh sole & frog, & cut excess/collapsed bars
  14. Sundance's front feet 3 days post trimming

Sundance's front feet 3 days post trimming

Flaxen chestnut/sorrel about 34" Good conformation mostly
  15. Sundance's front feet 3 days after trimming

Sundance's front feet 3 days after trimming

Flaxen chestnut/sorrel about 34" He has the least problem with soundness although he is plagued with allergies that cause his breathing to be very loud. He's on medication for that and I'm trying to get him to lose weight by working him (lunging, giving rides to my children, & driving).
  16. Sundance again

    Sundance again

Flaxen chestnut/sorrel about 34" tall Sorry iPhone photo in bad light He's the soundest, sturdiest, quickest, and most "pony-like" to me. I'm working on getting him re familiarized with work: riding and driving
  17. Four minis/ponies and a Belgian

    Four minis/ponies and a Belgian

These are the 4 ponies/minis I handle & their pet Belgian. All are gelded & kept together in a large pasture with 24/7 access to a barn. Youngest is Little Bit, oldest is Kody. All have been trained for pleasure driving, but spend their time grazing & being loved by their owner. I'm...

    Minis verses small ponies

Thanks for the responses. I read some of the stuff on the AMHR (it's Shetlands of 4 types & minis of 2 types) and I'm still a little confused. I guess my biggest question is why the numerous registries? It made sense when I believed the myth that ponies (generally) were short, sticky, & hairy...

    Minis verses small ponies

I'm not terribly familiar with minis. Even though I'm in a position to handle 4 of them. Only 1 of the horses appears to my untrained eye to be most like the photos of your cuties here. However, they all share many characteristics I interpret as pony-like. Especially my favorite, SunDance. Their...
