My favorite way to tone a horse up is driving! And it's a lot of fun.

Throat Wrap vs Throat sweat? Is there a difference?

Another good question here would be how long a person should work on sweating a neck prior to a show? This way folks are not sweating a horse to death, lol, for months before a show. Perhaps someone can give expectations of when they should see the desired results so people will know when to...

    Is Crystal pregnant?

Letting her foal on her own is not a great idea. I lost my first Mini foal, who couldnt break out of the sack and it suffocated. I have lost a couple over the years due to dystocia and WOULD have lost more had I not attended the births- either due to not quite positioned right or they would...

Upright tin-can hooves despite regular trims

Beware of the gravel in areas where they eat. I know someone who did their entire area in gravel, including the area where the horses eat and they lost a horse due to eating rocks and had colic all the time due to it! However I do agree with having hard ground to be on. I would still try a...

    A new critter coming soon!

Havent read all the posts here yet but Purina makes a great Junior feed. I use it with my youngsters along with some good quality alfalfa hay. I also use the mineral salt blocks that look like rocks- they love those. Minis seem to require more protein than their bigger counterparts...

Who all is expecting foal(s) this year?

I am expecting two Appaloosa foals this spring. Both mares (mother and daughter actually) are bred to my fewspot stallion. Here is the stallion, DRK Spotanious Combustion This is Missy (Sonoita I'm Miss Leading) and her daughter Delite (Olneys Sweet Remark)

    Light bulbs

YES!!! And the new bulbs I just HATE. They actually go dim after a little use and almost end up like a night light. Whose 'brilliant' idea was this to go to this other type of bulb. Not only that, the new ones have poisonous stuff in them and I am not sure I like that at all.

Suggestions for a horse that won't drink?

I can feed mine wet beet pulp, however if the horses are not used to it, it will take them a few days before they will eat it. It's something new and of course they swear someone must be trying to poison them, lol I soak it (shredded with no molasses) and then rinse it good and then leave it...

    Fat mini diet help

Good thoughts there- could be insulin resistant, low thyroid, or just too fat. If it's either of the first two, without a diagnosis and some help from your vet, etc... no diet or excercise will get them to lose weight.

Are there breeders not breeding for the Arabian type

I dont know why people keep comparing the more refined, slender Minis to Arabians. I have also owned a couple of Arabians and I have yet to see a Mini that really truly looks like one. I have seen a lot of nice Minis that are more slender with dishier heads, but they would never be mistaken...

    Fat mini diet help

Welcome to the board and the world of Minis! Her feed should be of good quality and the same rules per pound apply to Minis that applies to the big horses. And you are sure she is not pregnant, right? lol Also, if she is obese, I would cut her back slowly and also add some mild excercise to...

How important it the mane for a show horse?

I agree, dont worry and he is young- he is not going to have the long full mane of an adult horse yet.
