    Box Fan Hangers?

Lynda, these fans look like the one pictured. I get mine at Wal Mart. The way they are designed, I just hook them over the tops of the stalls. I really like using this kind of fan at horse shows.

    Box Fan Hangers?

I switched from box fans to 9", high velocity fans and like those so much better. They are easier to handle, hook right over the top of the stalls and move more air, too. You might check with Gene Williams if you want to search locally for hangers. I think he was/is making those.

foals birthing area and birth results

I agree with Nathan and Disney. My mares are too valuable to me to not be monitored closely as foaling approaches. Dystocias are horrible events and I know of mares that died a terrible death out in the field because they weren't being watched closely. I have too much money, time, labor and...

    Teeth off

Young, growing horses can have bites that come and go while they are developing. Upper and lower jaws grow at different rates, so each of those can have a growth 'spurt' much the same as a horse being level in the back one day and high in the rear the next, so it seems. I have occasionally had...

Raising your own beef? Anyone else trying this for the first time?

I've raised a few calves in years past. Many years past. I had Moo 1 and Moo 2. Then later came Mork and Mindy. Mork got out of the pasture once and ate the flowers in my flower bed and the screens off the windows. He got a date at the processor for that!

Joint infections in foals - How do you treat?

Thanks everyone. I've very hopeful this is all behind Marker now.

Do maiden mares have more trouble getting preggas?

While no is the correct answer, there are some reasons that maiden mares don't get in foal easily. Immaturity will keep young, maiden mares from settling. A tight cervix will keep them from getting in foal. And some mares don't get in foal on one breeding cycle.

Joint infections in foals - How do you treat?

I just wanted to give an update on Marker. He's doing remarkably well! His antibiotics were stopped after last Thursday. He had been swelling free for about 7 days and was having some side effects from the antibiotics, so I decided to stop them and see how it went. I am happy to report he is...

    Early weaning

Progressive's Foal Starter and Creep would be an excellent choice for a first feed for one so young. It's a milk based product and I've used it many times with my young foals. I suggest you contact Progressive directly for help with a feeding program. They will likely suggest their Growth...

    Bad Weather in Central OK

The hail tore all the screens on my windows on the south side of my house. It also broke two fiberglass roof panels on my mare barn. I'll have a roofer out to inspect my house roof. Hopefully, that is all the damage, but we have another round of severe weather expected today and it could be...

We are ok here. Had some hail. Hopefully, no significant damage, but will know more in the morning. Hope everyone is ok.

    Pinto ???

If the dam of your colt is solid, with no pinto patterns and the sire is pinto, then your colt would be heterozygous for the pinto pattern he inherited. If used for breeding, then he will pass along pinto 50% of the time. If he's bred to another pinto, as Mona explained, then your chances of...

Missy **COLT** 5/5 , Joint ill - Keep him in your prayers

Here's a new picture of Marker from this evening. He looks like the picture of health and he is F-A-T! He was 3 weeks old yesterday. We had a lot of issues from trying to give him multiple injections. I actually hit a vein and thought I killed him. Then, we never could inject after that...

Missy **COLT** 5/5 , Joint ill - Keep him in your prayers

No swelling in his hock at all this morning. This is the first morning there hasn't been a little. It has been going down during the day the past few days. I only have enough Amoxicillin through tomorrow night, so I will call my vet first thing Tuesday morning and see what he wants to do...

Joint infections in foals - How do you treat?

Good question, Peggy. And yes, Marker did have the E Coli Endotox at about 2 hours of age. So, in his case, it didn't stop the bacteria that invaded his system. Another foal that had the vaccine, developed diarrhea that had to be treated. So, for me, this year, it hasn't been real effective...

Missy **COLT** 5/5 , Joint ill - Keep him in your prayers

Thanks for asking, Diane. Marker is continuing to improve! He's been off the Equioxx since Tuesday and has had minimal swelling. Last night there was no swelling detected at all. He will stay on antibiocs at least until the middle of next week. I'm really hopeful he will pull through...
