    Split gum

I'm glad to hear it is healing well. I have had a couple of horses with flesh wounds that I thought would leave terrible scars, but have healed with hardly a trace.

    Need help with Parent Qualifying

It makes no difference, BUT, the hair MUST be pulled and not cut. They test the root bulbs.

    Pattern help?

Patterns can be very tricky and often mimic one another. That is why it is extremely important to test, especially in the case of LWO/Frame.

    Pattern help?

I would suspect minimally marked Tobiano. I do not think Calumet carried Frame. I have had three of his daughters (and still own two) who were all negative for Frame and are minimal Tobiano. Edit to add, I would still test for Frame though. I don't know if Calumet was ever tested.

Gray Gene/White Markings on Face/Body in Horses

It could easily come from either one or both.

Gray Gene/White Markings on Face/Body in Horses

I believe those modifiers that inhibit or restrict the white are incomplete. In other words, they limit the white to face or legs or minimal form on the body, but do not totally prohibit it. Otherwise, we would regularly be seeing Pinto foals from totally solid parents.

Gray Gene/White Markings on Face/Body in Horses

I definitely believe that there are modifiers that inhibit the amount of white, but I don't believe they can totally prevent white from appearing on the body, even in homozygous form. Otherwise, if you bred one horse, homozygous for the inhibitor to another horse homozygous for Tobiano, what...

Gray Gene/White Markings on Face/Body in Horses

If the White were caused by Sabino (or any of the other Pinto patterns) the skin would be pink underneath. If he is grayed out to White, the skin will be dark (which is what he appears to be).

Ever sold a horse to a "friend"...

To this, I can only say, you knew she was a liar to begin with.

Gray Gene/White Markings on Face/Body in Horses

This thread has really gotten off track from the original question, but when people talk about "normal" white markings, I like to show this example: This stallion: Bred to this mare: Both have what many people would refer to as "normal" white markings. They produced this foal: The...

Gray Gene/White Markings on Face/Body in Horses

Same thing as a Star. Maybe Sabino, maybe Splash, or maybe Frame.

Gray Gene/White Markings on Face/Body in Horses

A white star is a minimal expression of some Pinto gene. It may be Sabino, Splash, or Frame (or possibly some as yet not named gene). A white coronet is a minimal expression of some Pinto gene. It may be Sabino, Splash, or Tobiano (or possibly some as yet not named gene).

    Silver Bay VS Liver Chestnut

That test result does not include a test for Silver. Black, Agouti, Tobiano, and Frame Overo. AA would have nothing to do with producing a lighter mane or tail.

Getting a mini? questions and can I eventually keep with a bigger horse?

Add me to the list that thinks this set up is crazy. You are running the risk of the yearling filly getting bred WAY too young. There will come a time when the stallion will pester the big mares and he is likely to suffer a fatal blow from one of them. It is a free country and you can do what...

I agree completely with what Eagle (Renee) said and have nothing to add to it, but just wanted to welcome you to the forum.
