    Driving Carts & CDE

Thanks for the thoughts on bridles, I will definitely make a getting a good bridle at the top of the list. Do you have an opinion on flat blinders vs. the cup type? I noticed that some of the flat ones actually push down on the horses eyes, this can't be comfortable. Thanks again.

    Driving Carts & CDE

You explained the difference between the 2 different shafts perfectly. I am currently taking driving lessons using curved shafts that are placed through a leather loop and yes, they do float a bit. I don't know enough about driving yet to know whether my horse would be bothered by this...

    Driving Carts & CDE

Wow, thank you all !! So much new information to absorb. I've never even heard of Biothane, I'll have to look that up! It sounds like the Kingston cart with motor cycle tires would be ideal for the type of driving I hope to do. Of course, I was aware of the many parts of a harness, but I...

    Driving Carts & CDE

I have a couple of questions regarding the purchase of a new cart and would appreciate anyone offering any advice in this regard. I am just know learning how to drive a cart, as my new horse Pepper (after 5 weeks I finally named him) has been trained to drive. I know I would like to have an...

    How's the Weather ?

That sounds cold for Southern Cal. Here in Connecticut it was 75 today, which was wonderful. Up until today however, it has been unusually cold, in the 50's and low 60's. I was still making fires in the wood stove until just 2 days ago. The last 3 fires I made didn't feel quite right as I...

Cushings disease and wonky hair growth

I don’t know much about Cushings and how the Prascend works, butI also had my little mini on it for years. She was 34”, about 250 lbs ( or so) and she was only on 1/4 tab. It was so tiny, I used a pill cutter to make sure each quarter was exact. She wasn’t fond of taking the little tab, so I...

    NAMING NEW MINI

Yes, I am going to learn to drive. When I purchased him I had the option to purchase his harness and cart. I got the harness but left the cart behind as it was in just ok condition. I want to get him a new harness, possibly in leather unless my research shows that nylon is better. I also...

    NAMING NEW MINI

So, it’s been a month since I took delivery of my new mini and I still can’t come up with a name for him. I thought that once got to know him that I would have an “aha” moment. Nope, hasn’t happened. He is a quiet, calm little guy. He gets along great with his pasture mates. (I now...

How is everyone handling the smoke?

We have had smoke filled skies and the smell of smoke for the last couple of days here in northwest CT too. I feel bad for our neighbors to the north, loosing over 8 million acres to the wildfires so far😩. It has made the sun look an incredible orange/peachy color.

Has Anyone Switched From Riding Horses to Minis?

I also switched from riding horses to minis several years ago. I had riding horses (2 at a time) for almost 25 years. When one of my last horses passed away I couldn't find a suitable full size companion for my remaining horse. When my farrier came by to trim my old boy "Chico" I told him...

Welcome from NW Connecticut. Marty is lucky that he has found a home with you. I have found that the folks on this site are extremely knowledgeable about these little mini creatures and are more than willing to give good sound advice/suggestions from their experiences. Good luck with Marty.

    Hello from southern Connecticut

I go to White Memorial several times a month, year round....but to walk. Although I've had minis for years, I've never learned to drive. Three weeks ago, I purchased a new mini and he knows how to drive, so I guess it's time I learn. If/when I feel comfortable driving outside my property...

I Need Help in Decision About Keeping My Mini

Yesterday was the big day. After a solid week of crying and beating myself up about deciding to send my mini, Cooper back to the rescue, I followed through and returned him. I did it for my 2 donk mares and Rocky my other mini rescue. I had Cooper moved out in the morning and took delivery of...

    My donkey friends

I use weanling/pony (200-300 lbs.) size halters for my two mini donks. I didn’t really have any problems finding halters for them, but proper fitting fly masks was another story. Very hard to find and not too many choices to be had. It’s funny, once I got the right masks for the girls I found...
