    Mare 337 days

Sounds like a normal pregnant mare. They get uncomfortable and go off feed. You can give her a little banamine if she is very uncomfortable and stops eating for a while. We had one mare go at 372 this year. Right now I have a mare at 341. Most of our mares go around 330-345. She will go...

    What could she be?

Looks too red to be palomino. I'd say sorrel tobiano with sabino.

    Color question

Your mare could actually be a perlino and it could be a buckskin. I had a mare registered as a cremello that was actually a perlino. The foal cannot be a dun unless one of the parents are dun.

New Foal Born - Silver? Let's Guess Color?

He could be a sabino. He cannot be a cremello or perlino if he has dark eyes! The foal looks silver bay to me too.

    foal rolling ideas/ help?

I agree. You seriously need a new vet! I would kill my vet if he didn't "want" to come. You've got to be kidding me, that's his job. My vet comes whenever we need them if there is a problem. Especially a foal! Foals can turn bad so quickly.

    Clipping foals

I don't clip the inside of the ears either and just clip them roughly, but that goes for all my horses unless I'm showing.

    Clipping foals

Yes....I have had the same experience. The big guys shed out no problems. Sometimes our mini foals are so hairy and it gets HOT. They are yucky and sweaty. So we clip. I have had no issues with bugs or sun, clipping my foals. But we do have fully covers stalls and misters.

ok that makes sense for the worming. I didn't even think about that.

Mares, Foals, Prefoaling, Vet Check Poll!

What's an IgG test? I don't think my vet does it. He just gives them a shot to relax their tendons and checks their bite, heart rate, etc. I know how to check the placentas, myself.

    Clipping foals

All of our mares and foals are in fully covered stalls. I don't clip foals when it is too cold. They are blanketed if needed when I show. I've only shown a foal once. She did awesome but it was not a long trip....5 min from our house and I road in the trailer with them to make sure she was...

Mares, Foals, Prefoaling, Vet Check Poll!

Hey Everyone, We have been discussing breeding, vet costs and I was just curious what the "norm" is for most mini breeders. We have always prefoaled our mares and had a vet check on the baby after they are born. Do you do any of these?

    I lost a foal..

WOW what nerve. I want to smack that lady!!!!! jerk. I'm sorry for your loss. We have have only missed two with the breeder alert in 10 years. We also use the pager, not the phone thing. We used milk strips and cameras as well. The last colt that was born, the mare didn't set off the...

    Shipping Internationally

Thanks everyone!!! Super helpful. I am sure it would be stressful for any horse but I would be stressful trailering them around the US too. He would we fully weaned by the time he left. Not sure if the sale will go through but I just thought I would check into it. It is definitely...
