    New Schooling Pony

Oh I love Welsh ponies! She looks like a dolly. Sending thoughts of warmer weather your way!

scary afternoon, came home to horse leg hung in fence

So glad to hear she is ok (and so are you!) Sounds like you handled the situation well & didn't panic. She's just as lucky to have you as you are to have her.

I saw this on the news this morning and thought it would be fun!

    Advice on 'untraining' a baby

I agree with all of the above. You need to start slow and do "it" right (whatever method is your "it"). My step 1 would be desensitize and help him learn what is a cue to react to vs. what is just happening and doesn't deserve a reaction. Step 2 that would coincide with step 1 would be teaching...

Guess I should of posted an intro

Welcome! You will always find someone ready to chime in here. I think it's the best thing I ever did (joining) when I got my mini's. And the foaling threads are an addiction.... beware!

    new to the forum

Welcome! I'm new as well, & this place is FULL of wonderful suggestions. Don't know if you have mini experience or are just starting out, but the search feature will bring up all kinds of informative threads from the past. And if you ever have a question, someone has an answer! Best wishes from...

    questions about feed

I feed purina mini horse & pony as the grain part of the diet. I also feed alfalfa pellets (easier to store) & beet pulp with free choice grass hay. I have a 2 year old filly from a bad situation, a hard keeping 3 year old gelding, & an easy keeper gain-weight-by-looking-at-feed 4 year old...

    I know, right?!

    Growing the mane

Targetsmom: I remember reading about that! So glad he's ok! And you know, manes are just decoration.... at the end of the day it really doesn't matter. Right? I am going to start some MTG this weekend.... see what happens. It just cracks me up how thick & long it is and it stands straight up...

    Growing the mane

I'll get pictures when I get back home (traveling for work). I guess worst case scenario I make a last minute decision the week before ;)

    Parelli people?

Wasn't directing my rant at anyone in particular ;) I really do love hearing techniques of ANY kind that people use! (Especially since I am new to the mini world) I am really hating winter... What made me decide to get a driving mini in the winter?!?!? Sigh.

    Parelli people?

Lucky seven, I don't think it is possible for anyone to be "wrong" in their beliefs. If someone wants to tell me that what I am doing is wrong and I am stupid for believing it, fine. I didn't ask for everyone to agree with me, and I'm not going to change what I believe to match other peoples...

    Growing the mane

His mane has been growing since last august. I think he's the sort that won't grow fast. I know most of the other competitors will be trimmed farther back, but he is my daughter's fun horse. Costume, obstacle, braiding practice, etc. which is why I wouldn't mind him having more mane. I never...

    Growing the mane

My daughters new mini was shown extensively last year & his mane was clipped back by previous owners. Knowing that's the "style" (words are escaping me this morning) we don't want to grow it all out, but she wants him to have a little shorter bridle path section. All of his mane is growing back...

    Parelli people?

Lucky Seven makes the best point of all (again, my opinion). You don't have to pay anything to develop any of the techniques shown by any NH "guru" With a little imagination, I have made my own carrot stick & rope halters with whatever I have at home. And the internet is a wealth of FREE...

    Winter driving

Oh Marsha, I HATE this weather with a passion! We had snow and freezing rain yesterday morning, then sunshine and 40 in the afternoon. The woolies were wet and looked miserable. I too have considered clipping for winter, but more often than not, I fear they will need that insulation. Until it...

    Parelli people?

I agree with Rabbitsfizz.... there is too much conformity. Doesn't mean we can't take the same ideas and use them though. Case in point, I have a 3 yo gelding who is full of try & LOVES playing the games. I have never felt more connected with a horse, and I've worked with hundreds. I can't wait...

Looking for Farm name of Mini Budweiser Horse at AMHR Nationals

Depending on what you are doing, you could always use something a little stiffer to give it some structure. What comes to my mind is fly boots, they're flexible but still maintain their shape. If you have a set of those laying around, maybe add a cover to it to create the illusion you are trying...

Looking for Farm name of Mini Budweiser Horse at AMHR Nationals

I found something online that said Little Big Ranch, but couldn't find a site or names. Try velcro on elastic straps? Good luck! Hope to see some pictures!
