Why Do You Breed or Why Have You Stopped?

Last year, we decided to stop breeding and geld our National Champion stallion! Several factors came into play on that decision...we lost a foal, we enjoyed showing more than breeding, the place we are renting really is not set up for stallions/breeding/foaling and the fact that there are so...

Round Bales...How long do they last?

A 600 lb.-ish round bale lasts about 1.5-2 weeks here. It is under cover and there are 5 Minis and a Pony eating it free choice. There is some waste as I don't have a metal holder around it, so once it spreads, they pee/poop on it. (smh!) My farrier told me that he feeds a compressed square...

    Gelding - Aftercare

Living here in Florida...sand is an issue, so I do rinse the site with water a few times daily. Horses roll...and they get sand in all the crevises. As far as exercise, I think that as long as they are moving (not stalled), they are fine and do not need to be exercised "forcefully".

    Ok who's watching Survivor??

SO glad Brandon is gone! What a jerk! (and I am being nice when I say that...lol) Philip is still a jerk, but have to give him points for walking away and keeping his mouth shut for the most part when Brandon was having his meltdown.

    Marriage Proposals

I'm glad that even tho your parents are not very accepting that you told them! My parents were basically the same way...tolerant because they loved me, but never truly accepting...and I never told them I got married to Deb. I mean, they had to have figured it out because we both wore rings on...

What do you take to get rid of your head ache fast?

I take Excedrin...and if really bad, lay down with a cool cloth on my forehead AND the back of my neck. It helps the bloodflow to your head. ;) Just an FYI...Extra Strength Excedrin and Excedrin Migraine are the SAME exact thing..only the Migraine one is more expensive! (Its a marketing thing)

Help...Need to figure out how to "catch" pee!

Hmmm...I may actually try a cup...LOL! I don't have a way to bring her "in" with fresh bedding, but have kept her separated from the others to keep them from pulling it off (she rubbed off the 1st one by rubbing her butt on a low palm tree...LOL Just glad all I am wasting is pads and not the...

Help...Need to figure out how to "catch" pee!

I have tried 3 different times to catch my mare's pee on a taped on pad for the WeeFoal test, but apparently I am not putting it on the right spot! LOL! Too low, too high, in a spot where poop got stuck...Ugh! Is there a trick to this? Who'd a thought it would be so difficult to catch pee on a...

How soon...is "too soon"? Or...is there such a thing...?

I think that for right now, my dad is just wanting "company" (someone to watch movies with, go to the casino with, etc), but of course, I don't know what his feelings are or what he even wants to do for the future. It is hard being so far away, but my sister sees him quite a lot and relays...

How soon...is "too soon"? Or...is there such a thing...?

My sister told me a few weeks ago that my dad has been spending time with a few ladies these days. (In case you don't know, my mom passed away November 10, '12). At first I was very upset and sad...as if my dad had already "moved on" and was not grieving for my mom anymore..."How could he just...

    Our pony filly...want critiques :)

Do "babies" (yearlings) wear shoes for showing? There are no MP/Modern farms around here, so I know nothing about how to groom/prep/show a MP/Modern pony.

What is the youngest you've ever gelded a colt? Any complications?

Mikey is a gelding...No fuss, no muss...and he will be a much happier boy! At only 3 months old he was already acting studdy...dropping and nickering at mares (no "baby talk" with his mouth for this boy!)...and vet even said he had "big boy balls"...LOL!

    Our pony filly...want critiques :)

Thanks Sharron! i understand about the undercoat being a different color than the "true" color. I just ask because last year when we clipped her as a 3 month old, her coat stayed the same blood bay color (see pic below)...so was a bit surprised when she clipped out so dark this year...lol With...
