    Better filly pix... and...

Pretty girl! Blue roans are usually born dark, but if you part the body hair, you can see the hair coming in lighter down by the skin. I had a Dark Bay roan filly once. She looked simply Bay when born, but I could see lighter hair down by her skin. When I clipped her the first time at just...

    What color is this foal?

Could be either Perlino or Smokey Cream, as foal coats can change so much. But, my guess would have to be Smokey Cream. :-)

Do You Think EINSTEIN Is A Dwarf?

In my opinion, Einstein is without a doubt....a dwarf. I am also amazed that there are still so many people who don't, or can't see the signs. Large head, short neck, roached back, extremely poor conformation overall. I agree with Jody, AMHA would definitely turn down permanent registration...

    TWINS!!!!

Oh no........I just took a look, and I "think" they just had the little one euthenized. Appeared to be a vet in there with them & the lady was sobbing & wiping her eyes. Another lady came in they all hugged, then the man (vet?) left. The baby is covered with a blanket & the lady on the floor...

What color is our new leopard appaloosa colt?

Your gorgeous little guy does appear to be Buckskin. One of the parents would have to have thrown him the black gene and the cream gene. The Chestnut sire, obviously cannot carry either one. So, I would guess that his dam is not actually a palomino, but a Silver Buckskin (as someone else...

    Dwarf Question.....

Just wanted to mention here, that many dwarf producers do NOT show any signs at all, of being a dwarf "carrier". There are known National Champions who are excellent examples of the breed, who have produced dwarfs. So, basically....it can be very difficult to look at a horse & determine...

Mare with a "lazy tongue" ???

Sounds like she either has some paralasis of her tongue, or just a sore tongue for some reason, making her not want to move it due to pain. I know if I have a sore on my tongue....it is extremely painful to move it normally when eating. Maybe she bit her tongue, or the stick poked it.

    Average days of mini gestation?

My experience over the last 20 years of breeding has been pretty much the same as Bess'. Mine have averaged 300 - 325......some being even less than 300 days looking "fully cooked"

    28 HORSES STARVED TO DEATH!!

As horrible & absolutely heartbreaking as this is....it doesn't surprise me at all. I knew about Grady way back in 1989 when I first got into Minis. There is a very good reason why he was against DNA! That would mean he couldn't manufacture false papers the way he did on a regular basis. I...

What's the one colour you wouldn't want in your breeding program?

Since I love the wild pinto patterns, I would never use a gray stallion in my breeding program.....altho I think a gray/white horse with dark skin can be extremely beautiful to look at. I have also never liked the double dilutes, simply because their pink skin & "off" white coloring is just not...

    Has anyone heard of Twins?

I wish I could remember the lady's name....I've been racking my brain & going through my records to no avail. She was a potential client who had contacted me about buying one of my horses. We talked & e-mailed back & forth for quite some time, and then she called me one day to let me know...

    Has anyone heard of Twins?

Yes, there was at least one case of surviving twins to a Miniature mare. It was in Canada, I believe, and the mare was a larger one....36" - 38"? She had two adorable pinto foals that were born healthy & doing well last I heard. There were photos of them posted on LB Forum when it happened...

    Color Question

She looks like the "typical" Tobiano EXCEPT for the facial white marking. Tobiano does not put white on the face. That has to be caused by an Overo gene, such as Sabino, Splash or Frame. So, she is actually what I would consider a Tovero.

    Overo Breeding.

What Kelsey said is very true. That is why I don't use any Homozygous tobiano horses in my program. You will always get the Tobiano gene passed on, which will at least partially obliterate the full Frame pattern. I use solids & heterozygous tobianos/sabinos as broodmares to cross with my...

    Unique Facial Marking

I've seen this often on Sabino horses.....even "solid" ones. Sabino doesn't always mean pinto. It can show as little as a patch of roaning.

    Christmas Mini Miracle

I've not had a chance to add this to my website this year like I usually do....as I've been pre-occupied with my dying mother. I don't know from day to day, when I will get "the call"....so it has been very stressful & an emotional rollercoaster for me lately. But, I wanted to post this on...
