    Hello from Scotland...

Very pretty, that name really suits her.

    Teasing, breeding Covering Mares

I did not mean that he was not worth protecting, it just sounds like he already has good manners and is easy to handle, so going through the trouble isn't necessary. In a pinch, you can make a wall of hay or straw bales for the minis to meet each other to prevent kicking.

Post/Share your 2016 Mini Horse Foals - Photos & Videos Welcome!

Last foal of the season. BZB Sophia our mini spotted jenny delivered a lovely grey jack. Poor momma prolapsed, but our fabulous large animal vet got her fixed up. Fingers crossed she makes a full recovery. With the foaling season that we've been having, it's a wonder we've survived (I must have...

    Square metal bridle keeper needed.

I have bought all kinds of hardware from Outfitters Supply in Montana. I looked at their website and they do have metal keepers. In a pinch, you could rob a leather one from another piece of tack, or as suggested, use electrical tape until your replacement arrives.

    Teasing, breeding Covering Mares

In my opinion, your best bet is to enlist the help of one of your horse savvy friends to hold one of the two while you hold the other to introduce them. If he is a gentleman, he should be polite and respectfully advance on her and if she is at all ready, then she most likely accept his advance...

My Buckskin mare "Mng Mist Dezigner Lace:" delivered a pinto filly this morning. Filly is sired by "HTF Kiss My Thistle " pictured jumping.

    Stallion

I think you are off to a great start, and I doubt you will "destroy" any horse with your handling as you are concerned about it. It is the people who are truly clueless and not concerned about behavior modification that ruin horses. It sounds like you have a plan and a good pool of resources to...

Lost Another Member of the Family

I am so very sorry for your loss. Please do not beat yourself up over this, I know it is heartbreaking, but you really did do everything in your power to try to save him.

    Stallion

If I remember correctly, he made each stall 4ft wide and 6ft long. The minis can turn around in them, but they aren't big enough for long term stabling. He built them in a hurry to accommodate overflow in the stable to safely contain stallions. They are completely portable, he picks them up with...

    Magnets

Along the lines on what Chanda suggested, I couldn't find any mini sized magnetic therapy boots, so I bought some magnetic beads from the guy at the fair who sells the magnetic therapy jewellery and stitched them into my neoprene splint boots and bell boots that I got from national bridle shop.

    Stallion

Those are mine, lol. My husband built them for me when I was keeping horses at my father's house when our barn was full. It is definitely safer to keep a space in between fence lines, otherwise horses can nip at eachother through the fence and are more tempted to climb the fence. The easiest...

    Stallion

If you do decide to get a stallion, it would be a very good idea to set up a seperate paddock with extremely well-build fence to keep him contained. The fence should be tall enough that he cannot jump over, solid enough that he cannot bend it over, break through it or climb it and it should be...

    Rearing foal

I agree with miniv, when on the lead and in your space, this is a big problem. It may not seem huge now, but when full grown, this could become catastrophic. In the pasture by herself, this is okay play, all of mine do this, and when rearing or pawing momma, they get diciplined by her and you...

    New Hens!

I am so sorry to hear about your little chick. That is very disappointing. Nature can be cruel sometimes.

    New Hens!

Once an egg eater....always an egg eater. I cull these birds from my flock before they destroy the whole clutch every day. I have heard many theories on the reasoning from lack of calcium to boredom. Giving them space to roam and lots of things to scratch at/occupy them may deter it, but often...

    Run Free Little Dusty -RIP

So very sorry for your loss. We lost our buckskin colt to colic in the fourth, very heartbreaking.

    New Hens!

Love the pic of momma and biddie, so cute. Sorry she abandoned the others, always disappointing. They can take a few days longer to hatch sometimes depending upon temperature , don't give up just yet. Do you have anyone else to stick them under? Can you candle them? I cannot resist opening the...

Post/Share your 2016 Mini Horse Foals - Photos & Videos Welcome!

Thank you Ryan, that means a lot. It has been a rough couple of weeks, my father in law just lost his Belgian mare and he is taking it real hard. The buckskin mare that my husband bought me for our anniversary last year is due any day now so I have that to look forward to. Thank you Ryan, that...

    Foal Deworming Question

In my opinion..."safe" is a relative term. If the product label says it is safe for/ intended for use in foals then there probably will not be an adverse reaction (like putting flea prevention meant for 100#dog on a cat kind of terrible reaction), however in my experience, deworming a foal at...
