A few months have passed --only foal for us stillborn

I am so sorry. When one breeds, one has to realize that they all do not live. It will always be hard when you loose a foal, but know that in the future, many will live. Don't give up on your dream, next year could be a better year.

    Remember my sick bald colt?

He is doing just fine, but still really small. Here he is with his best buddy, my shaved down Tibetan Terrier. They play together, sleep together and he withers her and she just loves it.

    Thinking about buying/showing..

I agree, go to shows first and see what you like. A horse needs to be balanced, with a 45 degree shoulder (without this they can not get their heads up), long slim neck with a pole. (Most Minis do not have a pole, but some are starting to get them. The pole is what allows the horse to have...

Riverdance's Marbled Tigress...here she is from the show...

She was not shown halter. She was a last minute d Decision to show her. Now I have to figure out how to dye her mane and tail dice I would like to get rid of the burnt hair color. No, she is still the only one. She is only 3 this year. It may be a couple more years before I breed her , if...

Riverdance's Marbled Tigress...here she is from the show...

I decided at the last minute to take Marbles to the Florida show. Took her out of pasture clipped her and here she is. No conditioning, no neck sweating...just her. She could stand to put on a few lbs which I am working on now. She won under all three judges.

    WOW, BIG SURPRISE

It was a bad foaling season for me this year. Lost two foals to hip lock (never had hip lock before with 14 years of breeding), and one mare from the hip lock, could not get the foal out. The mare was only 4 years old and one of my best mares. This was to be her first foal and both foals were...

    Your breeding practices..

Pedigree means very little to me, though there are lines that I like, as well as lines that I do not like. Color also has no importance to me. What is important to me is conformation, conformation, conformation. A well balanced horse, with a long slim neck, big hip, level top line and a...

Opinions needed on my colt..pics added

I will have to agree with Disneyhorse. He is not stallion or any kind of show material.(sorry, but you asked for honest opinions). His head is very plain, neck is set on his shoulders wrong, not well balanced at all. Because of his week rear and straight stifles he would not be able to move...

    mare has waxed up

I have never had a mare go over 24 hours after truly waxing, and that was only one. The rest of them will foal the night they have waxed. Not all mares wax either before they foal. Congratulations on your healthy colt.

    i have some health questions!

This time of the year, Mini's without their coats clipped in your area do look dull. They are shedding out their dead coats, dead coats are dull. By july she should be shed out and shinny again. If you clip her (which would be safe to do now), her coat will grow back nicely. As for the...

    Sick foal losing hair

The poor baby is almost totally bald on his head, neck and legs. I will try and get a picture of him for everyone tomorrow. Funny looking guy now.

    Winks Bred Miniatures

I have a mare who's dam was Winks Excellence and her sire is Whiittmaacks Mickey Mouse. My mare is a 2x AMHA World Grand Champion producer. She is now 24 years old. I bought her when she was 18. I have a daughter and a son of hers, as well as a granddaughter and a grand son.

    Sick foal losing hair

Thanks for all of the responses. It is my last live foal that I have been fighting to save. Fortunately I caught his illness right at the start and took him to the vets. He is still depressed, and sleeping alot. No foal play jumping around his stall. He is nursing well now, ever since a...

    New Filly Dwarf????

I am thinking that some really big farms, ones with famous stallions would not want it to get out that they are producing dwarfs. It would destroy their whole breeding program. If they have enough money the tests could be delayed for years. I am a dog breeder. We have to test for things like...

    New Filly Dwarf????

That was the point. There was nothing wrong with the foal, a LWO can not poop, their lower intestines are not attached. They usually die within 24 to 48 hours. This white foal was not a lethal white, but they were ignorant and thought it was and killed it.

    New Filly Dwarf????

Unfortunately, many dwarfs were used over the years in the Miniature horse breeding program. I know some very famous ones. One I actually saw in person and was really surprised as he was so popular. Remember, there was a time when breeding small to small was all that was done and most...

    New Filly Dwarf????

REO, In a way we are agreeing with what I am saying, but the LWO gene is passed on too and in order to not get one, we must test and make sure that we are not breeding two positives, as I hope we will soon be able to do in Dwarfs. Still, there are people who will breed dwarfs to make small...
