    2024 Hours Driven

I've been ground driving Peanut and Cappy quite a bit this Fall. I have not posted for a bit as I got locked out again but I seem to have it sorted out now. Cappy hasn't had the best year, he had the sinus surgery and a tooth out this Spring and has had to have a couple small procedures...

I love Flickers, one of my favorite birds.

    2024 Hours Driven

I actually drove Peanut twice a couple of weeks ago. 1 hour for that. About 2.5 hours ground driving him and Cappy.

    Mini Blankets

Big Dee's Country Pride blankets with the belly band are nice. Very adjustable. They come in S,M,L and X-lg. I think they are 200gm weight. I like the Tough 1 blankets too, but my minis are broad and I have to put in an extender in the front. Saxon blankets are great but they only go down...

    New elderly pony

If you get Prascend pills, they hid really well in a peice of granola bar. I use honey ones, stick the 1/4 pill in and then roll it into a ball. Good luck with the little fella!

allowing your horse to give kisses

I've caught the dreaded ringworm from my mini. He had it when I purchased him on his tail bone and I thought it was bug bites so I wasn't careful. I also gave same mini what was probably a corona virus aka covid in Dec 19 right before the breakout. My husband worked with someone who was on a...

    2024 Hours Driven

Billy must be feeling better? I have not been here for a little while as my account got locked. Sounds like his foot resolved :). I've ground driven Cappy 1 hour and Peanut about 2 since I posted last.

    Scratches

I can't decide what it looks like. I think I'm leaning towards scratches. When Oatie gets odd spots like that I've mixed a little bacitracin with the antifungal and clears them. Don't know what a vet would say about that though. Is that the foot he was lame on? Maybe he did catch it on...

    Best time to clip

I clipped my welsh pony this time of year a few years back and it did ruin his winter coat. He ended up with a moth eaten mess of a winter coat about 1/3 as thick as is should be. That's just my experience with one older pony. Could you do a bib or partial clip maybe?

    Billy

I wish your vet would understand the complexities of keeping a mini! I think you've done well, he's lost weight, quite a bit IIRC? Any chance this could be a stone bruise from his jaunt the other day that turned into an abscess brewing?

    Billy

Sorry to hear Billy is not feeling 100%. Can you put him in his hoof boots and keep him in his corral for a few days or til the vet gets in touch? I'd probably soak his hay and parcel it out slowly so he doesn't get bored. I forget, did you just have him tested for Cushing's? I might mention...

    Walking/Hiking with your minis 2024

Hope you were not too banged up. I did the same thing last year when Peanut spooked at some baby turkeys hidden in the grass that neither of us saw. I also used him to pull myself back up. When I was laying there flat on my back sorting myself out, the wee turkeys paraded by my head, a...

I walked Cappy 30 minutes. Wrong thread I know but I can't find the other one :D !

His way of going reminds me of my black mini Peanut. He sounds like he may have the same attitude too :)

mini horses as pets in cities

Horses, even minis, need room to run and exercise. I can't see that happening in the city. Plus the feed storage and manure removal would be difficult. My mini produces a LOT of manure in 24 hours. Knowing human nature, I can see someone getting a "city mini" and tossing it aside once the...

    2024 Hours Driven

15 minutes ground driving Peanut and 15 walking Cappy. It was hotter than a two dollar pistol out there this morning! I let Oatie out and he takes a sunbath 🥵. I don't understand that pony! He also likes to stick his head out over the door during ⚡⚡⚡

    Billy

Also hoping it's just a bruise! The ground has been so hard here as it's been dry, is it the same out there? Be good Billy and get better quick!
