Minis seem to be a breed where horses retire a bit earlier then most other - what is the oldest horse on your show string?

I have done some fun shows in the past few years with my guy.

In 2009 he was back in the breed ring (locally). He did well in jumping and driving and liberty at the age of 14, not bad at halter, but he doesn't have that 2-3 year old build any more. I have plans to show him in 2010 along with my LTD Magic Man daughter, I can't wait. I am also looking to try my hand at cde in 2010 with my 14 year old.

He loves the ring, loves driving, loves trails.

He has a huge heart and gives 110% all of the time.

I love all my horses, but he is one that is irreplaceable.

Magic he is 19 this year, he showed in hunter, obstacle, showmanship, his favorite is hunter. This picture was from 08 centrals winning all the hunter classes (amt, open, youth)at age 18. This year they went reserve world champion in showmanship 13-18. He will be on the show string next year at age 20.

For 2009, I had the pleasure of showing 14 yr old Grosshill EK Boogermans Lady Love, owned by Suzanne Sooter. She's an AMAZING mare! She's had 5 foals in the past including AMHA World Champion Rivers Edge Robin Hoods Rubicon.

Brought out of retirement in 2009, at the AMHA World Show she was Top 10 Youth 8 -12 Sr Mare, Top 10 Youth 7 & Under Sr Mare, Top 10 Youth 7 & Under Showmanship and World Champion Adult Special Needs Showmanship.

Lady is also an incredible mover and had a fantastic performance in Liberty (though she didn't place).

Here is Lady pictured with Ambria Sooter in the Youth 8 - 12 Sr Mare class.

I'm very lucky as I have leased Lady for breeding and with any luck, she will be in foal to Redrock Magic Maker in 2010!

My oldest show horse is my little 29" silver dapple "Miniature Dreamlands Misy J" aka Misty who is 12 yrs old. She hits the ring each year she is not in foal.

Then there is my 31.75" buckskin roan King Supreme son, sr stallion "Little Kings Sentra Supreme" who just started his show career 2 yrs ago and is 9 yrs old.

I only can afford the local club, fair, AMHA, & AMHR shows but hey, it's all about having fun!

Rabbit took Show Champion at age 25!
Jane, that is awesome!!!

I understand the reasoning and logic in the mini world with the breeders that show their horses young and retiring them to the breeding shed, but in the big horse world a horse that is 10-12+ years old is considered to be in its prime showing years, it makes me chuckle.

Becky, that is soooo awesome that Suzanne is letting you lease Lady. OMG, that mare is sooo gorgeous and such a character. Congratulations!!

My oldest show horse will be 11 when he enters the show ring next year. He's shown here in 2008 at 9 years old, the year he took his only trip to World and brought home a 6th place in Country Pleasure. I don't think he'll ever be completely retired, LOL. I truly love this horse. He takes a year or two off, then I always end up bringing him back. I've shown him off and on since he was two.

Our gelding was 15 when we bought him. We weren't sure about showing at first but he took me on such a ride in the obstacle driving at our first show that I was totally "hooked" on driving. He zipped through the cones so quick that I must have had a petrified look on my face as the judges were practically falling over from laughing. Oh, we won! Last year brought the old quy out of the pasture for my daughter who wanted to show and he managed several nice placings for her but he develops a "hitch in his get along" after about one class. So at 20 he was "retired" again!

Classique's Phantom Gold, aka Phantom, turns 15 on June 2. He shows no sign of slowing down, and we're very happy about that.

I recently checked the Hall of Fame rankings for the 2009 AMHR show season, and Phantom was in first place by 136 points.

At AMHR Nationals in September, he had one National championship and three Reserve National titles, as well as nine top fives.

At the 2008 AMHR Nationals, at the age of 13, Phantom won six National championships -- three in Open classes, three in Amateur classes -- and he became the first AMHR mini ever to attain Hall of Fame status in nine disciplines: Halter, Hunter, Jumper, Pleasure Driving, Country Pleasure Driving, Roadster, Park Harness, Versatility and Liberty.

One of his most impressive accomplishments out of the show ring is that he has more than 1,000 Facebook friends. If you would like to be his Facebook friend, he goes by Cp Gold. (Facebook wouldn't accept Phantom as his name, or Classique's Phantom Gold.)

Also, our website (www.enchantedhollow.net) is loaded with photos of Phantom.

I forgot to add our horse the oldest horse we show is Marytowns Hi Tech Echo- Casper.. Raven shows him in halter, driving and in hand performance as well as liberty.

He is going to be 14

Tippy, my 18 year old mare, took 2 national championships home this year as well as multiple top tens.

You would never guess her age seeing her drive.
