Got me to thinking that it sounds like something PETA or similar groups would try . Anyone else??

Well I don't think it would be something PETA would do since they are against cruelty against animals. Here is what they have up on their site today.......

In the wake of a massive recall of contaminated and deadly dog and cat food, Menu Foods and Iams are under fire for their cruel and unnecessary laboratory tests on animals. PETA is calling on law enforcement authorities to investigate whether cruelty-to-animals charges should be filed against the companies for alleged failure to warn consumers about the tainted food as soon as they had the information and—just as disturbingly—apparently feeding the tainted food to cats and dogs in order to test it. March 23, 2007, 2 p.m.: Is Iams’ Dry Food Also Contaminated?

PETA has received queries from concerned dog and cat guardians who are worried that animals might fall ill after eating dry food, and as a result, PETA is demanding that Iams and Menu Foods also recall dry food products until they are chemically tested—and cleared—for safety. We have also sent an urgent letter to the director of the Food and Drug Administration’s Center for Veterinary Medicine urging him to investigate Iams and other companies that sell food supplied by Menu Foods and take appropriate actions if the companies knew—yet withheld—information about pet-food contamination.
The latest I've heard and read is that the contaminated wheat gluten came from China and the rodent poison that it was contaminated with is a chemical that is only used in over seas countries. So who knows what happened exactly, we probably never will

I spoke with my vet today because I fed a few pouches of one of the contaminated brand a month ago. My vet told me that usually symptoms will happen within 1 week if they are going to have a reaction.

Intentional. Peta behind it? Wouldnt put it past them or someone working 'in their name' but without their 'verbal' consent. I dont think much of the China/Wheat link, sometimes I think that China is made to be a media scapegoat, not that they dont pull some pucky.
