I've been working with Ale, our last foal. She has been doing GREAT! She is, of course, her father's daughter. She has her sire's personality. LOL! And to think, she's never met him.
Well, I've been working with her a lot on halter training and setting up. Dare I say it, but she's a natural! She is the most social foal we have and she is constantly reacting to touch. I don't know what it is with fillies but they respond to touch way more than colts do. None of our colts have ever been so social when it came to touch.
I've tried to be consistent with my approaches when it came to setting her up. I say "Woah", use pressure, pats and rubs for positives, and my hand to keep her focused. (In front of her face, not on her!)
So, here's some pictures of Ale. Her hooves have gotten long and need trimmed. It amazes me how foal hooves can quickly go from upright at birth to slightly back in the course of two weeks. So, that needs done.
I did set her up too far. I didn't realize it until after I looked at the pictures though. Would you believe me if I said that not more than five minutes before I had my dad take these pictures that I was out setting her up repeatedly and she did so quietly for about 2-3 minutes without a fuss? Not a single movement. She responds SO well!
I know that she's only been with us for a little over 2 weeks now (Saturday was 2 weeks!) but she definitely fits her name, JCPs Grand Finale! She's everything we wanted....and a little more!
