I Got my baby to have for fun and do driving just around. its hard to fully enjoy it unless my mom isnt home.. if i try to ground drive him she jokingly says to leave the poor horse alone, and be4 i even get out the door its "what ya doin?" "what you wanna do that for?".. so ya i ignore her and refuse to tell her what im doing anymore.. theres nowhere to go that she cant see... i would like to do the local thing and the lil parad we have in town.. i dont know how to get in them tho, who do i contackt to know how?... if anything id like to see my boy all show cliped and greesed up lol... just to see what he'd look like, from what i under stand he has good lines such as stouts mister pride (witch has Gold melody boy if my research is correct) and Soats lil Hoss.. so someday i hope to start a breeding farm with him as the head sire "hopefully" but all in all i wanna show for fun and maybe bring my mom around to just the point she stops tormenting me so "for wanting a mini 20 some years she dosent show it"

I LOVE to show! there is nothing Id rather be doing when Im in the ring, showing a great horse. SO much fun, winning is just the icing on the cake. Only I know how much work goes into a show horse and by the ned of the show season, Im more than ready for a break. I dislike clipping and all the stress that goes with entering and height certificates... Its nice to just let them be horses in winter and enjoy them stress free.

No I don't show. I have two double registered colts 2yrs and 8mo old which I purchased when they were 3wks old. My pinto was broke to pull a cart but before I could start behind the seat I fell from the ramp in my wheelchair and broke my upper arm while helping to move into our new home from our old one. I had it pretty hard without two legs and then one arm but I am soon out of therapy. My husband is happy with the colts droppings I provide him for his garden of trees. I get a big tickle just brushing and picking their hoofs. I would love to see someone take one or the other to shows but I don't think my nerves would make it. I don't think there could be anything nicer than my two colts running around in the field playing with each other for me.

I'm probably going to offend someone here, but here i go!

I don't really understand the whole 'showing' thing, just like i don't understand putting my children/babies in baby shows.

I don't have my mini at home yet, he's due to be weaned at the end of February. I bought him because i fell in love with him. I think he is the most beautiful horse in the world, so how would i feel if i didn't win?????????

I really don't need anyone telling me that they also think my baby is beautiful, just as much as i don't want to hear that he isn't good enough for a 1st place ribbon!

The only place for my little guy is here at home with his new loving family who will think he is number one.......ALWAYS!

Now, having said that..... I don't judge anyone for putting their mini's/horses in shows. Everyone seems to get such a thrill out of it, so maybe i'm missing something?

I totally agree, i Bout chief b/c i love him, i looked for about 4 years "or more" be4 i found him. my dad is iffy about me showing b/c he knows i think my horses are the best in the world. so hes iffy b/c of that, but i want to just have fun, not frilly show not for a wile. more like a dress how ya want out a barn halter on the horse show.. or parad but i miss are lil local chrismas one sence i dont know how to get in it.. i think the frilly shows are grate tho, so someday i do want to be in just one. and i want to see him all frilled up at least once

Targets mom.... I would love to have show opportunities like the ones you are mentioning around here! :~) It would be a wonderful way to learn what you are doing without looking like a fool. And for the children to learn as well. Too bad they don't exist here, I am sure there would be many people that would be interested, and it would really be a good promotion for new 4 H'ers as well.

I don't show ... anymore. At least, it's been a couple of years since I've set foot in a showring as an exhibitor - these days, I'm in there as photographer!

I only come out of "retirement" to show horses I know are going to win who are owned by other people.

I suspect I'll end up showing again once my daughter gets older and gets into horses, but for now, I am enjoying my summers of not working horses!

Although I do show occasionally (local driving shows and a county fair every so often, maybe 2 or 3 times each summer) mostly I drive my mini because it is FUN!! I belong to a carriage and sleigh club, and we do alot of informal drives throughout the year. These are way fun. Show up when you want, drive when you want, eat a huge pot-luck smorgasbord, and drive some more. Members have minis, ponies, horses, donkeys, and drafts. There is no worries about show clips, baths, show clothing, etc. Lots less stressful. I also meet with a friend from the club (we each trailer about an hour, and meet in the middle) and trail drive at a few county parks. We bring lunch for us and the horses, and have a wonderful time. I also drive while my daughter rides her OTTB, both in the arena and in the fields.

Here is my daughter and my mini, Sundance Kid, at a local driving show in 2006:

Next up: CDEs!!

My motto: find what you like to do with your mini, whether it's nursing home visits, parades, breed shows, trail drives, dressing them up for photos, or just loving 'em ... and DO IT!!
