I was wondering what makes a foal eligible for AMHR registry? Can the foal be registered AMHR if only there dam is AMHR, without having to hardship them? What about if just the sire is AMHR? thanks ahead of time

I hope you don't mind kayla, but while we're at it, can anyone add some info on an AMHR-only foal who stays under 34"? She would have to be hardshipped into AMHA at age 4 or 5, right? That is, in order to be double registered. Dam is AMHR only; Sire is AMHA/R.

In order to be registered in either registry without hardshipping, both the dam and the sire have to be registered with that registry. Both AMHR and/or both AMHA. If only one parent is registered, then you will have to hardship. Here is where they differ. For amha, If the horse is 34" or less at age 5, it can be hardshipped (I think registry is closing though, so check into that) For amhr, the horse can be registered at age 3 if 38" or less---but only if it is already registered with either AMHA or ASPC.

Hope this helps

Angie

Also if you own the AMHR only dam and want to go this route, you can hardship the mare if she is 5 or over, 34" or under, then register the foal at half the hardship price when the dam is AMHA. You will have to do a stallion report and DNA but if its a foal worth hardshipping anyway, it would be worth it, that way you would also have the mare AMHA too and not have to go through hardshipping anymore of her foals.

On both counts the foal would have to be hardshipped into AMHA first. You cannot hardship into AMHR anymore without AMHA or ASPC papers

Nope both parents must be AMHR registered to allow the baby to be AMHR registered. The only way you can hardship into AMHR anymore is if they are AMHA or ASPC registered.

As for the AMHA questions thats right if you want her to be AMHA registered you must hardship her in at 5 years of age. Or you can hardship in the dam if she is under 34" and then the baby at half price.

May I add a question to this interesting thread?

If a foal is already AMHA registered, can it be hardshipped into AMHR?

I do not believe sire or dam were AMHR, but both were AMHA.

Can you hardship a foal or do you have to wait until they are 5?

This was similar to my question in the beginning. I have already registered AMHA Foals, and wanted to get them AMHR I believe from what this is saying, they can be hardshipped into AMHR, ANYTIME as long as they are already reg AMHA.

A horse that has either AMHA or ASPC papers and is 3 years or older, can be hardshipped into AMHR, as long as it is 38" or less.

If a horse only has AMHR papers or no papers, it can be hardshipped into AMHA when it is 5 years old ONLY if it is 34" or less. That is until 2013, when AMHA closes their hardshipping and books.

If your horse only has one parent with AMHR papers and the other parent does not, you would have to first hardship that horse into AMHA ONCE it turns 5 years old, ONLY if it is 34" or less. Then you can hardship it into AMHHR.

If you hardship the parent that does not have AMHR papers, but does have AMHA or ASPC papers, into AMHR, then you can just register its get at regular prices. If the parent has no papers, you would first have to hardship it into AMHA (if 34" or under and at least 5 years old), then hardship that parent into AMHR.

Actually the 3 years or older rule applies only to ASPC registered horses.
An AMHA horse can be AMHR registered at any age--you do not have to wait until that horse is 3 years old.

This is true. I recently hardshipped an AMHA only yearling colt into AMHR

, thank you but yes I do think that AMHA can be hardshipped at any age, is that correct?

I have 3 foals all are already AMHA registered, but 2 of the colts dams are AMHR and there sire isnt. And the fillys sire is AMHR and the dam isnt. I guess they will all need hardshipping then, correct?

Hardshipping is when the foal has no parents registered in that registry but you would like that resulting foal registered into that registry you must hardship it in, that foal will be shown with no pedigree.

AMHR any age when it comes to AMHA and you don't even need to get them inspected just send a copy of the AMHA papers to AMHR.

In AMHA they must be 5 years of actual age, must be DNAd (Stallion/Mare), and must be inspected.
