My 4yo mare, Clementine, wen to driving training last spring. I am so happy with her training and how she is doing with me. Just a coupe of things I had a question about. She was trained in and goes really well in a basic half cheek snaffle bit. I know there are tons of bits out there but if she responds well to this bit is there any reason to eventually move her to a different bit? And, if so, what are the reasons behind this. Clementine is my first experience with driving horses.
Also, she was trained with an overcheck. I have been using it when driving her until the last few drives. Those drives, without the overcheck, she tries to snag food as we walk and tends to toss her head around a lot more. I have the overcheck pretty lose but I am not loving her behavior without it. I know a lot of people on here don't use them but is there any reason not to if she behaves better in it? It is lose enough that she can drop her head to pull hard if she needs but won't allow her to get her nose to the ground.
