Does anybody here belong to Direct Buy? We have an invite, and wondered how much the membership is, and if you thought it was worth it before we spend 2 hours in a hard sell program.

Thanks

I don't but I did call about it though. The closest show room to us is in Indianapolis but we go visit our son and his family there every few months anyway.

When I found out you had to pay a fee to join I said no thanks... I figured in today's market you could find super deals on furniture, etc anyway. We just did on a sofa and a 50 inch tv......... Thought I would check into it because some day when we sell this farm we intend to build a new house. I figure with all the tv ads they are running they can't let that stuff go too cheap anyway.

We looked into it with some contractors we work for because of our business and found that it might work if you have to furnish an entire home from scratch or sell model homes and have to furnish them. They have a lot of model mobile home accounts they furnish on the sales lots. For an individual just needing to buy one or two items it doesn't pay.

Marty - do you know how much it was approximately?

My parents looked at it and it was expensive. Plus, down here, you had to make an initial appointment to meet them and if you were late you were out of luck. I wouldn't bother with it.

We used to belong to Direct Buy. My husband is a general contractor and we joined while we were building a few houses. Our experience with Direct Buy was pretty poor. It cost us approx $3800 to join (several years ago) We had to pay the day we took a tour of the "showroom" they give you no time to think it over they force you to make a split second decision because they say if you leave the offer is no longer valid. Anyway, we did it because we had a need at the time. We did save a lot of money on the items we bought but the headache was not worth the money. We had a minimum 8 week wait on every item we ordered some were as long as six months and you pay for all these items up front. If you place an order they hold your order until they have a full order from others to meet the manufacturers required minimum order. Also when something came in damaged then you had to rewait for the new item all over again. Now when we were building this really set us behind. They also tell you to never shop another store or to let the stores know you are using Direct Buy. Well we did keep quiet about being members but I am the type person who has to see something in person before I can decide I like it, so we did shop in the stores for ideas. I say on most things it was a 50% savings. My husband builds custom homes and they didn't have a lot of high end appliances (at that time) so we were forced to go elsewhere for those things. But lighting, fans, furniture (our own home) we did really did save a lot. The branch we were dealing with had the worst customer service I have ever seen. We found at that showroom that we were dealing with nobody knew anything and nobody could help you and gosh forbid you called you could never get a hold of anyone. We didn't live close to the showroom (an hours drive) but always ended up driving there to get any help, if you could call it that. Anyway, I recommend you stear clear and just look for sales unless you plan to build and do a whole house it really isn't worth it.

Thanks Nuzzle - that's exactly what I wanted to know! I will cancel our appointment.
