Has anyone done this or is doing it now ?

3 geldings in with 1 mare all close to the same age , pros and cons please.

2 in with mare right now get along great with each other no problems at all - 3 geldings know each other and were bought from same owner.

I have had all geldings and one mare but right now have three geldings and one mare that all live together. They share the dry lot with a shed and a shade block. I have had no problems.

i don't know if thi is the same or not, but my mini mare, and shetland gelding share a drylot.

we have two geldings(one domonant one) with alot of mares.. if that helps?? they just stay away from each other if they dont like each other..

For years we've kept the big horses mares and geldings together with no problems.

For the minis we seperate by sex because there are so many. But on the weekends the geldings and mares go out to the same pen for grass. And 2 of the geldings slipped in with the mares the other night...GELDINGS..they just have to be the stud at times :bgrin We just let the geldings stay with the mares rather than try to seperate them.

They will all get along they may have to get the pecking order donw

It should work out fine after the pecking order is established. We have 2 geldings in right now with 2 mares and they get along well. It's never seemed to cause a problem * knock on wood* hah

thanks guys for the information - just needed in put because I really really want this other gelding. My 2 other guys are just 2 years of age and I have just started the bare basic of driving with them. Not easy with the heat we have been getting,so I really have not done nothing with them except try to help them stay cool and all they want to do is stay in the barn in front of the fan. And tomorrow for the first time I will be putting a sprinkler in their run, will be fun to see what they do then after that it will be their first baths from me - wish me luck and hope I stay dry / lol

Anyway this other gelding has been trained for driving,I think they call it green broke last summer and the owner has been driving a bit with him this summer, she also said that if I want to buy him she will drive more with him and really have him ready. I am so excited and want to thank Gail McLennan once again for trusting me with a third mini, I have already bought 1 gelding and 1 stallion from her (stallion I had gelded )Justin will be the last addition to my small group and I hope we will have a great time going for rides together before summer is over.

I have a 3 yr old gelding, 2 yr old gelding, 6 yr old mare and yearling mare together on a dry lot. Feed time is the only argument and I separate for grain feeding and just make more piles of hay for the other feeding.

They have a pecking order with oldest gelding but stay together as a herd most of the time.

I stalled the 3 yr old gelding and 6 yr old mare together at shows and they did fine.

In my experience (biggies and minis), it is usually fine to run geldings and mares together. I have though had some geldings mount and "breed" (really do the deed) with mares, which can cause infections. (these were NOT proud cut horses).

I think what Lois (Mountainwaif) said is USUALLY very true. However, one of my geldings that mounted mares and really bred them as far as most of the logistics do go was gelded on my farm as a 6mos old! And he was "breeding" a mare of mine as a yearling!!! He never acted a bit studdish at all other than I caught him breeding a mare. I was shocked! Then my one gelding who was gelded as a senior stallion and had bred before is not the least bit interested in mares. It's all about food for that boy :bgrin

I have 2 geldings in a pasture with 8 mares and they all get along fine.

I thought I would show you a photo I got of the hope to be added to my other minis, we are hunting through all of our couches and chairs (leave no cushion un turned)for 1/2 of the payment for him. Can I check all of your furniture as well and what I find can I keep ?lol

Her is Just a dream (justin)hope it becomes a reality

The other 2 photos are minis that were bought from the same owner as Justin but the black one is my filly that was born at my home (Bella Blue). The one in the feeder is print - but I call him Prince he really loves to get into his food. His buddy across from him is C.J

But it does not end with just 2 front feet in his food he wants it all

:aktion033: I just got an email from Justins owner saying that she has accepted my payment schedual and with half down I can pick him up on August 16th. Ya - hoo I can hardly wait , she is even doing for me more ground driving and driving him with her cart so he will be up to speed. Now wish he could fully train me / lol but that is what my trainer is for - she is teaching me to train C.J but with Justin she will only have to train me.

He's mine all mine, now my mini family is complete

I have a 2 year old mare, 13 ish (gotta check papers I forget lol) mare, 4 year old gelding, and 6 year old gelding that all live together no problems.

With my big horses, I have a VERY bossy mare who rules the 5 geldings she lives with lol
