The last two days have been miserable. My kids and I are all sick.

My husband was spared and is feeling fine.

It's got to be the rain that just came in.

Mine are terrible...headache...so much drainage I get nautious (sp?)...benedryl works good for me but I can't take that while I work and have to have at least 12 hrs from taking it before work..so sadly I can only use it on my weekend...I can take sudafed, but it doesn't work as good for me. I'm miserable!

My allergies and sinuses have been pretty good so far this year, but when they do act up I take Claritin and Sudafed (the stuff you have to get from the pharmacist now). I like to take it separate, as the Sudafed can be taken every 6 hours, but the Claritin is a 12 hour pill (or maybe its 24 hour). I take one Claritin in the morning and sudafed as needed during the day. Claritin is a non-drowsy antihistimine, so it works great for me to take in the morning and I'm good all day.

my son is a wreck this year!! poor kid cant breath eyes keep swelling ughhh. we keep switching allergy meds but none seem to help this year. Last year he wasnt bad at all so i thought maybe he was outgrowing them. honestly sometimes i dont know how he copes with it. He has been sick for over a month now but goes to school goes to work and just doesnt let it get him down

I used to be on Allegra everyday. The insurance companies have gotten bad about allowing the prescription refilled without a doctors visit yearly (can't call like I used to get it filled). I've used Claritin before, but at the time it did not work as well as the Allegra. I've only had to take it twice since I got pregnant last May. I was just bragging to my husband that it had been over a year since I had a bad sinus/allergy issue.

I may try the benadryl just for tonight and see how that works out. May end up giving in and making a dr's. appt so I can get Allegra again.

Mine have been in an uproar this year. I thought KY was bad but nope I had gotten sick last week and now I am slowly getting over it. I had to go to the doctor it was so bad. On top of that I can only take like 5 things...Thanks to being pregnant LOL...Makes it worse I think..

Last week, I had major head aches and alot of runny snot coming out of my nose. Mix Tylenol a coke and Ice Cream in your stomache and it's pretty much gone.

I use Claritin -- well, WMart's generic of it. It is convenient at 1X a day. But, if you stop, then the pollens hit, you can't take it to "clear it all up", you have to take it every day. I'm not real good at that but, TRY.

Hey, watch the pricing. Got 3 boxes of 10 @ $1.94 each but, 1 box of 30 was $8.42.......

: Supposed to be other way around

And when I DON"T take it daily and get caught, yep, that Sudafed that you have to take ID and swear on the good book, and give them your first born.....I use that. Swollen sinus give you a pain that is hard to get rid of and hurts like heck. My eyes don't water! Guess that about only good thing.

Dr. Oz from Oprah says to use a neti pot, kind of a nose bidet. It looks like a genie's lamp and you put warm salt water in it. Then you lean forward, tilt your head and pour it into one nostril. It flows through the sinuses and out the other nostril. Alot of people swear by them, but I haven't tried it yet...my allergies are the worst in the fall.

My daughter had bad cold kind of stuff all during march and April.

I don't know what she had, doctor said it was allergies but I don't know.

She went to the pool one day and then that night she snored real bad and got a sinis kind of thing.

The snoring was really bad and the roof her her mouth swelled up as did her toncillies sp?

The swelling went down after a few days but the snoring lasted almost 3 months. She even had some sleep apnea with it. Just in the past couple of weeks it has almost gone away.

Was sure glad to see Oprah validate my neti kettle/neti pot ritual. My husband thinks I am practicing voo-doo because I like to burn a eucalyptus candle while I do it. It has done wonders for me. I have been using the technique about 18 months and I feel so much better. I am not saying it works for everyone but I like to do it before bed on a yucky damp nights like tonite and then I wake up and can breathe and no headache. It actually rinses the contaminates out of the sinsus passages. Works on pollen and other allergens and some how manages to just work wonders for me. No side effects. Anyone else tried it?

I recently got a neti (sp?) pot and it does seem to help a little. It took several days of use before I came to this conclusion. I also use Claratin, I hate using it though and reserve it for the worse days. Try using a mask at night when you sleep, I find this helps when the allergy attacks are really bad.

Anyone that has been on the forum for a while might remember when I got was in the tree rescuing the cat and got hit in the head with a rock?!?!?!? Anyway........they x-rayed my head looking for a skull fracture and at that time I found out I was missing a set of sinuses......most people basically have four sets of sinuses and I am missing a set which explained a lot about all the sinus problems I'd had all my life.

I'm just getting over a bad sinus infection and took the "Z-Pack" for five days and it did nothing for me so my doctor put me on Keflex for 30 days to clear it up. Because I don't have good drainage he did also recommend the sinus flush.............

I've been tested and I don't have any allergies, just sinuses that don't drain well.

I also keep Sudafed on hand

Yeah, I have a hard time this time of year also.

I've actually been doing pretty well this season with the following protocol:

2x Allegra 180 MG

1x Generic Claritin 10 mg

1500 mg vitamin C (breaks down histamine)

2x L-Methione 500 mg (methylation- breaks down histamine)

2x Quercetin & Bromelain 250 mg (inhibits histamine and helps with inflammation)

NeilMed Sinus Rinse (as needed, like after heavy exposure to allergens like grass / hay)

Big-as$ hepa filter in the house

Plus I have to avoid certain foods. Anything with heavy spices, garlic, onions are bad. Even bananas. Alcoholic beverages also congest my sinuses.

Allegra is the spendy one. But haven't had nights where I can't breathe (yet).

Me too, lots of allergy/sinus problems. Cold wind gets me every time, and this spring we've had cold wind nearly every day...I wear my winter tuque and neck scarf well into spring...in fact I was wearing both tonight! Looks goofy sometimes, but better than having a headache a few hours later.

I was pretty good earlier in the spring, but the last couple weeks have been really bad. I take sudafed, which does help some, but isn't the best for me because I do have high blood pressure & am on pills for that. What helps me a lot is the Nasonex nasal spray--it's a steroid I think--I use it once or twice a day & as long as I use it daily it helps a lot. Of course when I get feeling good I forget about using it, and then in a few days my headache starts up again. For anyone that hasn't tried Nasonex, it's definitely worth trying. There is Flonase too, but I didn't find it to be as effective.

I saw that about the netipot. I bet that does work.

Just saw on the news this morning that grass pollens are at the highest here in our area. UGH!

We are all feeling better today. I took some benadryl last night and it did help. Added some advil and Tylenol throughout the say yesterday to help with the sinus pain. My kids are better as well. My youngest is teething now too so it's just a lot of fun around our house.

My allergest recommends the saline sprays (basically salt/water)...in a nose spray bottle. I use the WalMart version like $1.79 works really well. He said use it after being in the barn, mowing, dusty conditions...etc to rinse out or flush out sinus area. It is also great for dry weather during winter heating season to help keep sinus cavities moist...especially for those taking alot of decongestants.

I take Clariten D (regular Clariten doesnt help me at all). On bad days...I add a Sudafed. Sometimes I use a little Vicks Vapor Rub...on my nose just helps open up my breathing or if I wake up with a bad headache.

Just had skin tests 110 injections....#1 allergy for me is timothy grass....hmm...when would I come in contact with that?....LOL :new_shocked:

I've had so many skin tests over past 20 yrs...took shots for 10 yrs...stopped in 2000....just didnt seem to make a difference. Not sure I believe they will help me. Just never sick...lot of sinus/allergy stuff....but this past winter was sick 5x....bad cold type thing...antibiotics the works. I think it was stress...wore down my immune system....flared up everything else. My family had alot of health problems this past year, lost my sister to ALS, Tim had prostate cancer surgery, Mom moved in with us and got sick for 3mo...hospital/nursing home...etc.

Anyone feel their allergy shots help? Anyone think stress flared up their problems this year? Just wondering...
