Hi

I would love to see photos of your appy foals that were born SOLID with no spots etc that have roaned out. Also how old were they when you first started seeing roaning?

Thanks

Here is my Feather in his appy spot process. I'm going to start with his father as I believe he's roaning out like him.

My Feather just 3 days old, He was born with only 4 white spots.

Ohh, I look forward to this thread. Wow, did your boy do some changing already. I have a little guy that I think is going to be a pintaloosa. Definitely pinto but he is getting alot of white hairs in his winter coat and some darker looking spots. I can't wait to clip him. His mom is a solid grulla that just started getting spots on her genitals last spring. She was 4. I hope that there are a lot more photos on this thread. Appies are so interesting.

I can play on this one!

This is TJ, one of our 2008 colts.. His sire is my black near leopard appaloosa who carries varnish roan and splash.. His dam is a black tobiano/splash pinto..

He was born solid black, only had a little mottling and some striping on his hooves so knew he had picked up the appy gene, just didn't know when or what he would color out to:

No recent pics of him as a yearling, but I did clip an area on his hips and he's got a lot more frosting and small black spots there, you can also see more white through-out his entire coat so have a feeling he may have gone near leopard like his sire did

His sire as a foal:

Sire now as an 8 year old:

I have lots of pics, but none are on this computer except the last ones I took before I sold them. I do have permission to post his picture. He was born solid black and this picture is of him winter '08 at 41/2 years old.

Here's my stallion Freedom. He's changed quite a bit I think. He is a tobiano/splash/frame pintaloosa.

Aww thank you!

I love him too. He changes color so much, I honestly don't know what color he is. Which is odd because I'm usually the one answering those color threads, but this guy is strange. He was born as you can see looking sorrel. Shedded out apparently light enough to get himself registered as a palomino. When I got him he looked like a daaaark silver black. Clipped him he looked classic buckskin. He grew it out and now looks silver bay.

I have him marked as a silver bay on my website, seems most logical until I know for sure lol.

I have been saving up to get him tested. Been meaning to for a while. Sending hairs in this week!!
