There's just me now. Some of my drawings were posted on here before by barbum. I started to learn oil painting by my great grandmother when I was in elementary school, but she has passed away. My grandmother is very good at painting but she refuses to do it and wouldn't even let her paintings be put up in her house and was going to get rid of them so I took them. My grandfather hung on to one. Of course, it had to be my favorite, two horses pulling a plow. I wish she would take it up again.

That's so neat! I've always wanted to be able to draw. I used to try to work with pencil but was never able to get it just right (or right at all, in my opinion). I remember being a frustrated little kid who would rip her drawings to shreds or ball them up and throw them away more often than not. At this point I've pretty much given up and just focus on other stuff like appreciating other people's artwork!

Do you have a website to display your work, Amanda?

I use to draw all the time when I was younger,.....not so much now,......my daughters are starting to follow in my footsteps though.

No, I don't have a website. I wouldn't know the first thing about doing one. Barnbum has put some of my drawings on here for me before, and she just recently put a drawing of her filly Whisper on here that I did for her but as far as website I don't have one. I can take more pictures of my drawings that my family has if anyone is interested. I would just have to get someone to put them on here for me as I am pretty untalented when it comes to computers.

My mother's side of the family was filled with artists and they had the temperaments, too.

My grandmother seemed like she could do anything whether it be draw, sculpt, knit, etc. She was a schoolteacher and was very popular because of her artistic and creative talents.

My uncle (maternall all of these) was a wonderful artist, with an amazing flair for expressing emotion onto canvas or in clay. Sadly, he took his own life back in the 80's.

My aunts both played multiple instruments and they did so very well. One of them was a wonderful singer, too.

My grandfather was a carpenter, and he could draw amazing likenesses in rough sketches of people. He also could build anything with little to no planning, and it would work, and it was also beautiful to look at.

My mother was also very creative and had a lot of talent that she never tapped into, but it showed anyway.

My father's side of the family claims a lack of artistic talent, but that is just not so. I believe that artistic expression comes in as many forms as there are people on this earth. To look at something and then express it be it in writing, song, sculpture or mere words is artistic and unique and worthy of regard.

My grandmother on his side was a wonderful quilter, and therein she expressed her creativity, though she mourned her lack of talent in the artistic sense. My father weaves wonderful tales of the scientific world around us, and intrigues the minds of those listening, and he can recite poetry amazingly...giving it a new life and understanding.

Myself, I love to paint, I love to draw, love to sculpt and I love to write, and to describe the things I see and feel to those that I want to understand them.

Here are a few of my drawings, some of them older, some are newer:

This one is about 16 years old, done when I was about 22?

A rough sketch I did not clean up after scanning, so excuse the stains and discoloration, they are in the original paper. This is about 5 years old.

A painting I did last year for a donation/gift.

Thanks for bringing this up, it's fun to me to see what others do to express themselves and your uncle is definitely wonderfully talented. I enjoy his website. Much of his work looks like something very familiar for some reason!

Relic, those pencil drawings of your daughters must be better than any gift she could have bought. You're probably glad she was broke

Hymmmm I am going to have to go dig up my old portfolio... I am also from a long line of visual artists on my mother side like Nootka, though my Grandmother and Uncle don't use their talents as much as they should, my Mom still does. On my father side, We are also a family of singing playing guitar people, and hence, I draw, paint, sing, and play a few instrunments.

It's considered normal in my family to be artistic and your the odd one out if your not....

My 1/2 sister's (Same dad, also have a brother, they came first, I am the baby) the star though, here's a link to her web-page, she's just the most amazing artist Ever with stained glass, and has rocked the European nation with her work, ( She lives in/and is Swedish) I can't wait till she comes over here and we can do the same thing here!

Sorry it's in swedish, but at least you can see the neat stuff she does, all by hand! If you go into Konsthantverk you can see the pieces she makes by hand.... Click on the individaul pieces to see them in the full. She rocks!

My own art work is oddly similar to her's though we developed on different sides of the ocean, and at different times. ( and mine of course is almost exclusivly based on horses) I'll have to go find a few pictures...(I started art first, was accepted into an "elite art high school" for art and singing...though she's older, she got into it later on when her mom got into reproducing the stain glass Tiffiany's...)

My dad can't draw to save his life, but travled all over europe living off the money he made from singing & playing his guitar every night, and eventually ended up opening for Peter, Paul and Mary and other bands similar to their sound, However, he made almost all his money from writing and publishing books and limericks... Have you ever heard "Today is the first day of the rest of your life? " Yeah, my dad wrote that, neat huh?...

My mom simply went to college and got a fine art's degree, and also sings and plays the guitar, she then went back and got her parallegal degree, and was working on becomming an Attorny when she met Pop...

My 1/2 brother also is musical, and is also a writer like my dad.

We are alot like a sitcom, it's kinda scary.

So yup, that's us!

Susanne needs to reply to this thread!!

My mom is an awesome artist! (I try and try but just don't have "it") I have pictures somewhere of my favorites...My moms dad was an artist as well - his job in the early 1900's was painting those Coca-Cola billboards on the sides of barns in Tennessee:) Mom said he always went to work in a suit and NEVER got paint on himself (I didn't inherit that either LOL)

Mom just did this for my sons room

I used to draw alot of disney stuff. Then, I got mad one day and tore it all up. Havent drawen since.

One of my oil painting instructors would have people tell him that they couldn't ever draw a straight line. He would tell them he couldn't either so he used a ruler

Pretty much everyone on my maternal side is an artist of some sort, be it paint, pencil or other medium. Myself, I can't draw creatively worth crap, but I can plan a mean building - drafting/architecture is more my style.

Most people on my maternal side are multi-talented - artistic, musical, crafty, etc. Me, I just photograph and do graphic design work. Oh, and write the odd book ...

Jenn, that still counts as artistic/creative, IMHO. I read a little bit of your work on your site and it's definitely there. I LOVE writing, too, but get too caught up in wordplay and boy my grammar's awful.

Hope your heartburn's ok, this is about the time it was really miserable for me. Even OATMEAL would give me heartburn, jeez!

I love seeing everyone's work, and their family's talents, too.

I'm artistic too but for some reason I stopped sketching after high school. Didn't mean to, just never seemed to get around to it anymore. I was getting pretty good at doing the shapes and outlines but I never learned to fill it in with the kind of shading that brought Horsefeather's drawings of Shah Azim and Muscat to life. (My best friend just completed the only sculpture of Shah Azim in that pose ever to be granted formal reproduction permission by both the photographer Bob Langrish and the owner of Shah Azim!) I think I was afraid that if I took it further I risked ruining it, so I always left them half done. Sad, really.

I've never really chosen any one thing to turn my talents to, I just seem to have an intuitive flair for most things. I RIDE like it's art. I FEEL life like it's art. I read and talk and write and enjoy like everything around us is art. But since I've never taken the time to really learn the techniques and detailed skills of any one medium, I only draw and write mediocrely (is that even a word?) I do sculpt and paint model horses and do so pretty well for no practice, but again, I don't seem to put in the time to really become talented. Ah well! Jack of all trades, master of none.

I'll post pictures sometime, really I will.

Leia

Oh WOW!!!! ALl these paintings and drawings are amazing! I wish I had talent like that. My sister and her husband do excellent work with paintings, drawings etc.....I'm very surprised they have never sold any of their art work or pursued it professionally.
