Are there any mini lovers in here who don't raise them.

HI, I'm new to the Forums and I just want to meet people with the same interests I have. It's quite overwhelming looking through the posts and and seeing the quality of minis and what is being done with them. I'm just a backyard mini lover with 5 minis. I live in Montana and there are not a lot of opportunies for actually showing them in "mini" shows, so I take one to the open horse shows once in awhile and show them with the big horses or ponies. And then there's the cost, WOW, between the association fees and traveling expenses not to mention the time and expense to get them show ready. Is there anyone out there like me that just wants to talk about thier "pets" and experiences with them?

I got my first minis in 1999 and didn't have one that showed until 2002 and open shows with big horses were my first shows. Didn't breed until really just last year (first real foal crop). I know that when I was "just" having them as pets and for driving, I was every bit as happy and having as much fun then as I am now. Don't feel like you need to do anything you don't want to because if I were a horse, honestly, I'd hope to be one that is "just" a pet. That's a good life

I bet that there isn't anyone that posts on this forum that doesn't consider their Miniature Horses pets, even if they breed them and/or show them. We all want to talk about our "pets" and our experiences with them and their care, that is why so many of us come to the forum, a lot of us everyday and some of us multiple times a day! Broodmares, stallions, and show horses can still be "pets".

I am not new to horses, but I am new to Miniature Horses and I have learned a lot here in a very short time. Miniature Horses are horses, but they present all kinds of new challenges and opportunities. I have not show my Miniature Horses yet, but I hope to start showing Miniature Horses in 2009 or in 2010, but that is NOT why I got into Miniature Horses. It is also not my goal to breed Miniature Horses, but I bought two pregnant mares (not because they were bred), so, whether I like it or not, I am going to have two Miniature Horse foals next year, but I am definitely NOT a breeder!

I am totally just a 'pet' mini owner. They bring me such joy and satisfaction just to care for them and spend time with them. And it's not just mini's either...I have two donkeys and a big horse (clydesdale) that are basically just pets too. The clydesdale used to be my riding horse, but he's 17 now and retired with poor feet. When he goes to his great reward, I might replace him with a short, sturdy riding horse, but it's not necessary that they work to earn their keep. I do drive my pony occasionally, and frankly, while I like it, he LOVES it.

I have been on this forum from the very beginning (see my two digit member number) and have learned so much and totally cheer on those people who show and breed such exquisite little horses. I am, however, happy with my little niche in the mini-world where I just love them as pets.

This forum is great because it has people at all levels of involvement in the miniature horse culture. I hope I continue to see that each one of us is appreciated for what we bring to the party!

HI!

I have 2 unregistered miniature geldings. There will be no breeding going on here, LOL! They are pets, and I am teaching them to drive. But it is just for fun and a way to keep them healthy and in shape. Showing would be great, but I don't have the time, money or quality to do so.

I am in Nevada and have 4 mini's. We have had 2 foals since we got them 3 years ago. Both mares were already pregnant when we got them. The second mare that was pregnant was bought because she was. The first mare it was just a bonus. My mini's are my pets but I do show them. My niece shows one of our mares and I am having girl that my niece is teaching to drive show my comming 5 year old mare. It is just for the fun and experiance that we show in AMHA shows. If finances change then we will get serrious about showing.

Not a breeder, just a horse lover! I have 2, would like to add a gaited horse in the spring if health, space, and $$$ allow.

Hi!! Welcome to the forum from Kentucky! I only have 2 (mares) and they are "just" pets also. I don't plan on breeding or showing although they are both registered AMHR. I love this place! There is a lot of experience and wisdom to be had from the "breeders" and big farms, and I am so thankful for them! There are a lot of folks here like "us" too! It's fun for all.

Post some pics when ya can! We love pics

My adventure with minis began about a year and a half ago, when an exasperated friend gave me a 10-year old mini mule. It has taken a lot of time and effort, but she now has me pretty much where she wants me!

She has been joined by a 2-year-old mini filly that appears to have been a cutting horse in a former life. The ducks, goats, and chickens are all much better exercised now that we have Syd living here.

While both of my girls are a bit larger than life around here, neither one has a real job. I can do the lead-line pony thing with them, and hope to get them trained to pull a cart someday. They sure aren't show quality, but they are very well loved!

Hi from Florida. I have two mini stallions. They are my backyard pets and I really enjoy them very much. My husband has started to fall for my boys also. Life has been such a blessing since we got the boys. They were each three weeks old when we bought them and they will be five this coming May. I had Knick trained to pull a cart for fun. We got Little Joe to keep Knick company. Your new forum friend FLFlyingW

Welcome from Arizona..... I have six mini's. 2 geldings, 1 very loved dwarf soon to be gelding and 3 mares one of which is again a very loved little dwarf.

Will never breed my mares as all are just my pets. I just adopted the 2 dwarfs and they are now in their forever home. This is a wonderful forum to belong to so again welcome....

Yes I do breed, but I hope it's ok if I welcome you to the forum anyway!

My minis are my pets, my loves, my life, and are my children.

I just have my mare as a pet. Sometimes I feel like I am out of the loop with people who show and breed but I see there are others here who like me, just have one pet. If i had more property and money, I would love to get into breeding them, but alas I don't have either so will have to enjoy them as pets for now ;)

Hello! I have 3 of them and they are just my pets. I don't show and I don't breed. I just really enjoy having them around. I would absolutely love to experience having a mare give birth, but I think would rather buy a mare in foal, because I don't have a stallion and don't plan on getting one! So, I basically just love having my babies around to love on and to talk to! Oh, the stories they could tell you!!
